Supreme Court Hearing Abortion Case Now

Father and maker of all,
you adorn all creation
with splendor and beauty,
and fashion human lives
in your image and likeness.
Awaken in every heart
reverence for the work of your hands,
and renew among your people
a readiness to nurture and sustain
your precious gift of life.

Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: The Supreme Court is currently hearing a case on the constitutionality of a federal law banning partial-birth abortion. Please pray for a favorable outcome...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The graphic details of a disputed abortion procedure filled the Supreme Court on Wednesday as justices voiced concern with a federal ban on that operation.

Justices brought up uncomfortable images in sharp questions to lawyers on both sides.

The issue: whether Congress was within its rights when it banned a procedure opponents call partial-birth abortion, for which there is little hard data and much disagreement...

If this vote was five years ago - I would have said that the law would be overturned. Now, with the addition of the new judges, I think we may see a victory here.

If the Republican Congress did anything - they confirmed good judges.

Sadly, that is one consequence of the Republicans loosing control of the Senate. Should there be another Supreme Court vacancy, the best we can probably hope for is another nominee like Justice Souter. God help us!

7 of the current nine judges on the supreme court were appointed by Republican presidents. 5 are Catholic. In the Roe v Wade decision, of the 7 judges who voted with the majority, 5 were appointed by republicans. I don't think that a mojority of the court has been democratic appointments at any time since the Roe v Wade decision. So, over the last 30 plus years, when all these immoral decisions have been coming from the courts, it has been republican courts handing them down.

There's something you're forgetting about catholicdemocrat. It isn't just the President who appoints judges, but it's the Senate who confirms them. So my question is this. When the Republican presidents you talk about apointed these judges, who had control of the Senate? That's what counts. The President can appoint ten men to one seat on the SCOTUS, but it's the Senate who decides which one gets in.

The president picks the nominee, always.

It's not about partisanship catholicdemocrat. It's about the lives of unborn children. Please just pray for the SCOTUS, and let's not point fingers anymore.

Both of the comments on this post were partisan and several of the posts you have made sense are partisan also. You stop being partisan and I will too. The Supreme court has been dominated by Republican appointments, that is a fact. The Senate rejecting presidential nominees is rare. There have never been 10 nominees rejected for one seat, as you illustrate in your rebuttal. The senate can't pick the justices. The republicans have put some pretty poor justices on the court. Reagan claimed to be a prolife president, he appointed 3 justices that have sided with prochoice. It will be interesting to see how this court handles the abortion issues. And I repeat my previous point....abortion should be illegal, but making it illegal isn't going to be enough to stop it. Abortions were being done in hospitals prior to roe v wade. As long as the woman had the means to get to a doctor who would call it medically necessary.
