(CNA).- Catholic traditionalists who broke with Rome twenty years ago have said they could not rejoin the Church because Pope Benedict XVI still supports the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, Reuters reports.
The Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) has sought the promotion of the Tridentine Latin Mass, which has been rarely used since the Second Vatican Council of 1962-1965. It is also critical of ecumenism, especially of positive relations with Judaism, and papal apologies for Catholics’ past sins....

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: As predicted by 'The Catholic Knight' over a year ago, the freeing of the Tridentine mass by Pope Benedict XVI's motu proprio entitled Summorum Pontificum, has relegated the SSPX to irrelevancy. The cornerstone of the SSPX existence was their promotion of the Tridentine mass. Now that role is slowly being taken over by the FSSP, which is in full communion with Rome, as priests from all over the world are learning how to celebrate the mass in its extraordinary (Tridentine) form. The complaints of the SSPX are now falling on deaf ears. It seems that nobody cares anymore. As their monopoly on the Tridentine mass has ended. The SSPX will begin to hemorrhage members in the years ahead, as their sect continues to spiral down toward obscurity.
