Cafeteria Catholics Are Now Put On Notice

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: ALERT - Cafeteria Catholics! Pay particular attention to what is going on in New York and Washington DC right now. A major shift is about to occur in the U.S. Catholic Church after Pope Benedict XVI's visit. It all revolves around a few darlings of the political Left, who have taken it upon themselves to ruin things for all of you.

Up until now, you've all been given a free pass. When it comes to the Church's teachings on abortion, homosexuality, birth control, women in the priesthood, embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning, and such; Cafeteria Catholics have been able to sit in the pews and pretend like it doesn't matter. They've been able to go up and receive communion, along with everyone else, as if there is no difference at all. Thanks to a few bold cafeteria Catholics in New York and Washington DC, that is all about to come to a crashing halt.

During the pope's visit, a few Cafeteria Catholic politicians took it upon themselves to receive communion at a papal mass. Among them were Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Ted Kennedy, Senator John Kerry, Senator Chris Dodd, and Mayor Rudy Giuliani. The Church has deemed that all of them are publicly in a state of mortal sin, because they publicly support "abortion rights," among other things the Church has deemed to be egregiously sinful. The Vatican has ruled that such politicians are not to receive communion until they fully repent. This current pope, while he was prefect of the Congregation for Doctrine & Faith, was very particular about that.

In attempt to prove the Church's teachings are irrelevant, and don't really apply to them, this above mentioned "gang of five" quietly snuck into communion lines and received the blessed sacrament in violation of Church Law during a mass presided over by the pope himself.

The gauntlet has been thrown, and now the debate is on! Up until now, the U.S. Catholic bishops have left it up to the individual bishop to decide how this particular rule should apply in their own diocese. It doesn't look like that will be the case much longer. The scandal created by this "gang of five" is now opening up debate as to what this bishops should do with the Cafeteria Catholics in this country....
( - Let us cut to the chase here.

When it comes to membership in the Church, either you accept the entire deposit of Catholic faith, or you do not. If you do not, simply put -- you are not Catholic. If you have, dissenting views about birth control, abortion, the dignity of human life and so on…take it to another religion that supports your opinions of discord and dissent.

Moreover, if you don’t believe in the sanctity of marriage, the permanence of character sacraments, the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, the infallibility of the Pope, the perpetual virginity of Mary, the duality of Jesus’ nature, both human and divine, the Communion of Saints, our belief in resurrection from the dead, and all of the other points defined by the creed of Nicaea…you’re not Catholic either.

Our faith is founded upon beliefs that are immutable and not part of the art of compromise. While I am at it….if you are in favor of a female clergy, join the Anglicans. If you want “gay rights”, lesbian rights, transgendered rights or just the right to dissent openly…join the Democrats. If you want to have a representative vote in any issue that the Church addresses…understand, our Church is not a working democracy.

When considering membership in our divinely instituted and absolute monarchial Church, also realize our message and purpose is to bring the teachings of Jesus Christ as proclaimed by the Apostles to a world of fragile peace and broken promises. We are a faithful community that is trying to make the world a holier place through our evangelical message and sacramental ministry. We are flawed as well.

The Catholic Church collectively has made its share of mistakes over the centuries, and we have admitted and recognized these errors. However, we stand for the development and stability of the natural family unit, advocated freedom of conscience and the fulfillment of human rights for all of our members. Throughout the world the Church, as an institution, provides medical care, food, shelter and other necessary resources for human comfort and sustenance. Additionally, the Church provides spiritual counseling and Eucharistic nourishment to over a billion people that need spiritual nourishment.

We advocate the causes of the poor and underprivileged. Through the diplomatic efforts of the Catholic Church, we are proponents of human rights and freedoms for all humankind in every part of the globe. We have no army, no navy or any other military instruments that are poised to harm the world and destroy the people of the world, and our message is one to bring about world peace and harmony.

If in fact, you want to belong to the Catholic organization and do not want to fully adhere to our beliefs and principles…then please pray some more about the lifestyle commitment the Catholic Church represents. Honestly, we are not looking for perfect members, just members that are willing to work towards human perfection as part of the ongoing process of living a Catholic life. If the pursuit of perfection in a spiritual manner is not something you seek, call the Episcopalians, they have space for dissent based upon secular humanism...

In other words, if you can't be authentically Catholic (by subscribing to the teachings of the Church) then GET OUT! There are plenty of other "churches" out there that will openly embrace you and your dissident beliefs. An old joke once asked: "What do you call a Catholic who picks and chooses which teachings of the Church to believe and practice?" Answer - A Protestant!

Yes, it may be a bad joke, but it's true. There really is no such thing as a "Cafeteria Catholic." The whole term is a misnomer. The varied assortment of Protestant churches out there were literally made by the "picking and choosing" of Catholic doctrine. A Catholic who engages in "Cafeteria Catholicism" has effectively become a Protestant in his own personal belief system.

For those Catholics who may fall into this category, The Catholic Knight would like to make a suggestion for a particular Protestant organization you might enjoy. It has the look and feel of Catholicism, but without all those pesky doctrines and moral standards. It's called the Episcopal Church USA. (I've provided a like for your convenience here). Please feel free to join them. They're really nice people, and I know they will welcome you with open arms.

A Wasted Vote?

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: How long will we settle for the "lesser of two evils" when we vote? Where has that gotten us so far? Aren't many of the problems we're dealing with now the very result of voting for the "lesser of two evils?" When you vote for the "lesser of two evils" aren't you still getting "evil" no matter who wins?

When was the last time you voted for someone who actually represented what you believe?

What is a "wasted vote?" Is your vote "wasted" when you cast if for someone who represents what you believe - regardless of the outcome? Or is it "wasted" when you sacrifice your principles to vote for someone who doesn't represent what you believe, but who you think might win? So it begs to be asked; are you trying to vote for what you believe in, or are you just trying to vote for a "winner?"

When you vote for someone who doesn't really represent what you believe, even if he wins the election, how does that benefit you? He's not going to represent your beliefs, and you just voted for him. Isn't that the very definition of a "wasted vote?"

Just some food for thought.

Questions For Our Time

1. Is there any way God can bless a nation that kills over a million unborn babies every year?

2. Has God already withdrawn his blessing from America?

3. Is America paying the price for abortion through wars, terrorism, crime and economic turmoil?

4. Will these problems only get worse until America stops killing the unborn?

Cardinal Calls Giuliani On Carpet Over Communion Flap

( - The decision by several prominent pro-abortion politicians to publicly receive Holy Communion at papal Masses during the recent visit of Pope Benedict XVI, despite clear Church teaching that says that their reception of Communion would constitute a grave sacrilege, may have backfired. While at first it seemed like it would be business as usual, today Cardinal Edward Egan of New York issued a statement condemning the reception of Holy Communion by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The Archdiocese informed that the issue is being brought forward publicly at this time "because it has become a public issue and a public question."

"The Catholic Church clearly teaches that abortion is a grave offense against the will of God," said Egan. "Throughout my years as Archbishop of New York, I have repeated this teaching in sermons, articles, addresses, and interviews without hesitation or compromise of any kind."

He continued, "Thus it was that I had an understanding with Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, when I became Archbishop of New York and he was serving as Mayor of New York, that he was not to receive the Eucharist because of his well-known support of abortion."

"I deeply regret that Mr. Giuliani received the Eucharist during the Papal visit here in New York," said Egan, "and I will be seeking a meeting with him to insist that he abide by our understanding."...

Alan Keyes Is More Qualified Than Obama, Clinton And Even John McCain

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Unlike Senators John McCain, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, Alan Keyes has actually worked for the Whitehouse in an official capacity...
He is a seasoned statesman. Former Assistant Secretary of State Alan Keyes spent 11 years with the U.S. State Department. He served in the U.S. Foreign Service and on the staff of the National Security Council before becoming Ronald Reagan's Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations (1985-88). In the interim, from 1983 to 1985, he served as ambassador to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, where he represented America's sovereign interests in the U.N. General Assembly.

Keyes was President of Citizens Against Government Waste (1989-91) and founder of National Taxpayers' Action Day. As the two-time Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Maryland, he challenged liberal Democrats Paul Sarbanes (1988) and Barbara Mikulski (1992). In the 1996 and 2000 Republican presidential campaigns, Alan Keyes eloquently elevated the national political debate as a candidate for president. With his unequivocal pro-life, pro-family message, he forced the GOP leadership to address America's moral crisis. His political views are consistently based on America's founding ideals, those in the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution.

Alan hosted his own syndicated radio show throughout the 1990s, America's Wake-Up Call, and a television commentary show, Alan Keyes is Making Sense, during 2002 on MSNBC. He is currently writing books and speaking publicly on America's moral crisis.

Keyes has a Ph.D. in government from Harvard and wrote his dissertation on constitutional theory. He served as Interim President of Alabama A&M University in 1991. He speaks French and has studied Spanish, Russian, and ancient Greek, and is the author of Masters of the Dream: The Strength and Betrayal of Black America (1995); and Our Character, Our Future: Reclaiming America's Moral Destiny (1996).

Keyes has unashamedly and consistently raised the standard of unalienable rights — and Biblical truth — in defense of the unborn. He confronts the culture of death with compelling and inspiring reasons why abortion must be banned from our land.

Keyes and his wife Jocelyn have three children: Francis, Maya, and Andrew. Alan's stated purpose in life, like that of America's Founders, is to provide a secure future for our posterity.

Alan Keyes is currently running for President of the United States as an INDEPENDENT candidate, and is not beholden to the interest of any political party. In other words, unlike the current frontrunners (Obama, Clinton and McCain) he owes no favors to party bosses.

'Pro-Choice' Abortionists Now Turn To Terrorism

( - A terrorist group calling itself the Insurrectionist Federation has reportedly taken credit for the recent bombing of the University of the Andes in reprisal for a decision of the Chilean Supreme Court prohibiting the distribution of the abortifacient "morning after pill".

The bomb detonated in a university bathroom on April 23. Although no one was hurt, ACI Prensa reports that the bathroom suffered severe damage, contrary to media reports that the device was just a "noise bomb".

"They say it's just a 'noise bomb' but in reality the bathroom was destroyed and if anyone had been there they would have been killed or injured," a university source told ACI Prensa.

The report, which originated with Chile's Radio Cooperativa, was based on an email message sent to Chilean authorities.

"Credit for the attack has been claimed in relation to the debate which has existed in our society regarding methods of avoiding contraceptives," said Xavier Armendáriz, a federal prosecutor, in an interview with Radio Cooperativa...

ALERT: Alan Keyes on short list for John McCain's VP

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT:  When I first heard this I laughed out loud, because I thought there would be no way John McCain would do this.  But then I considered it, and I came to the conclusion that it's his only hope of wooing back wayward conservatives (like myself), and countering the race card which will surly be played by the Democrats should Barack Obama get the nomination.  It effectively "kills two birds with one stone."  Suddenly, it didn't seem so far fetched anymore.

I have to say, if it's true, and if John McCain actually does it, then it would be the ONE and ONLY way I would cast my vote for McCain and the Republicans this November!  While punching my ballot, the second name in a McCain/Keyes ticket would be the ONLY WAY I could hold my nose and force myself past the gag reflex.  I would do so in the most sincere hope that McCain (due to age and health reasons) might not be able to finish his first term, or at least, maybe he won't run for a second.

Did Gorbachev Order Pope's Assassination?

The weekly Wprost, out tomorrow, shows a politburo document, signed by Mikhail Gorbachev, which appears to warrant a KGB contract killing on John Paul II.

So claims Polish journalist John O. Kohler in a book, also released tomorrow, Chodzi o papieża. Szpiedzy w watykanie - (About the Pope: Spies in the Vatican). The politburo document says: "Use all available possibilities to prevent a new political trend, initiated by the Polish pope…"

The document, which dates back to November 1979, - one year after Karol Wojtyla became pope - is signed by eight top Party officials including Konstantin Rusakov, who coordinated action with the Polish communist party, and Mikhail Gorbachev.

In Rome, Pope John Paul II survived four bullets on May 13, 1981 shot by Turk Mehmet Ali Hagca.

“If this information is true, Gorbachov should be brought to account,” said Zbigniew Chlebowski, head of the ruling Civic Platform’s parliamentary party...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Did Mikhail Gorbachev order John Paul II's attempted assassination? It sure looks that way right now. Russian records already reveal that the KGB was behind the assassination attempt on John Paul II on May 13, 1981. This latest revelation points to the possibility that this KGB order came directly from the man who would eventually become the leader of the Soviet Union during its collapse, and has since become somewhat of an international icon.

Global Warming Is A Lie - Latest Science Shows Ice Age Is Coming

( - A San Francisco-based scientist says that current solar activity strongly indicates that the earth is on the verge of a new ice age.

"Sorry to ruin the fun, but an ice age cometh," warns Phil Chapman writing in The Australian. Chapman is a geophysicist and astronautical engineer who was the first Australian to become a NASA astronaut.

"The scariest photo I have seen . . . is at, where you will find a real-time image of the sun from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory [SOHO], located in deep space at the equilibrium point between solar and terrestrial gravity," Chapman wrote, adding ominously that "what is scary about the picture is that there is only one tiny sunspot."

"This is where SOHO comes in," he explained. "The sunspot number follows a cycle of somewhat variable length, averaging 11 years. The most recent minimum was in March last year. The new cycle, No. 24, was supposed to start soon after that, with a gradual build-up in sunspot numbers."

That, he writes did not happen. "The first sunspot appeared in January this year and lasted only two days. A tiny spot appeared last Monday but vanished within 24 hours. Another little spot appeared this Monday. Pray that there will be many more, and soon."

Why? According to Chapman "there is a close correlation between variations in the sunspot cycle and earth's climate. The previous time a cycle was delayed like this was in the Dalton Minimum, an especially cold period that lasted several decades from 1790. Northern winters became ferocious: in particular, the rout of Napoleon's Grand Army during the retreat from Moscow in 1812 was at least partly due to the lack of sunspots."

Although the rapid temperature decline in 2007 coincided with the failure of cycle No. 24 to begin on schedule is not proof of a causal connection, Chapman warns that it is cause for concern...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: The scientist's observations are sound. His prediction is a little extreme, but it is consistent with history. 'Global Warming' is real, but then so is 'Global Cooling.' Both are real and actual phenomena of the earth's history that cannot be denied. The earth goes through temperature cycles. Some of them occur about once every thousand years, and some occur about once every ten-thousand years. All of them coincide with the cycles of the sun.

Sunspots are the key. The more sunspots the sun produces, the warmer the inner planets of the solar system get (Venus, Earth & Mars). The fewer sunspots the sun produces, the cooler these planets become. This has been confirmed by NASA, and meteorologists have been studying the polar ice caps for decades. For the last thirty years, the earth has gone through a gentle warming cycle ("gentle" in geologic terms). It's not the warmest the earth has ever been. In fact, it was warmer during the middle ages. But it is the warmest it's been in modern history. This is because the earth has been emerging from a mini ice age for the last 300 years. Now it would appear, at least to the latest scientific observations, that this mini ice age may have been just a precursor to a much larger one coming in the very near future (within a century).

Politicians have sought to capitalize on global warming pseudo-science which claims that man made carbon emissions are responsible for the recent global warming trend. This is in spite of authentic scientific data which shows a direct correlation between solar sunspots and rising global temperatures on Venus, Earth and Mars. The reason why politicians seize on this is the same reason why they seize on anything that might be made into a "crisis." It's all about power. Politicians around the globe have sought to use the global warming pseudo-science as a means to scaring the people into letting them consolidate more power into government bureaucracies. For the most part, the overwhelming vast majority of western countries have fallen right into this trap.

Now, however, it looks like mother nature is about to call down this pseudo-science political bluff, and if (or when) she does, the results could be catastrophic. The history of man demonstrates two things. The first is that global warming is good. Every time the average temperature of the earth rose, it was always accompanied by growth and expansion of human civilization. The second is that global cooling is bad. Every time the global temperature of the earth dropped, it was always accompanied by famine, disease, wars, and the collapse of human civilization. People and Ice Ages don't usually get along very well.

Russian Government Repays Orthodox Church for Years of Persecution by Booting Out Protestants

(New York Times) - It was not long after a Methodist church put down roots here that the troubles began.

First came visits from agents of the F.S.B., a successor to the K.G.B., who evidently saw a threat in a few dozen searching souls who liked to huddle in cramped apartments to read the Bible and, perhaps, drink a little tea. Local officials then labeled the church a “sect.” Finally, last month, they shut it down.

There was a time after the fall of Communism when small Protestant congregations blossomed here in southwestern Russia, when a church was almost as easy to set up as a general store. Today, this industrial region has become emblematic of the suppression of religious freedom under President Vladimir V. Putin.

Just as the government has tightened control over political life, so, too, has it intruded in matters of faith. The Kremlin’s surrogates in many areas have turned the Russian Orthodox Church into a de facto official religion, warding off other Christian denominations that seem to offer the most significant competition for worshipers. They have all but banned proselytizing by Protestants and discouraged Protestant worship through a variety of harassing measures, according to dozens of interviews with government officials and religious leaders across Russia.

This close alliance between the government and the Russian Orthodox Church has become a defining characteristic of Mr. Putin’s tenure, a mutually reinforcing choreography that is usually described here as working “in symphony.”

Vatican Newspaper Calls For End To Receiving Communion In The Hand

( - The American magazine Catholic Response has published an English translation of a provocative article, originally published in the official Vatican newspaper, calling for an end to the practice of receiving Communion in the hand.

The article by Bishop Athanasius Schneider of Karaganda, Kazakhstan, originally printed in L'Osservatore Romano, examines the historical record of Catholic practice, concluding that the early Church quickly developed the practice in which lay people Communion on the tongue while kneeling. Only ordained ministers were allowed to touch the consecrated Host with their hands.

By the 6th century, Bishop Schneider writes, the Church had formed a consensus that Communion should be received on the tongue, of reverence for the Eucharistic Lord. Pope Gregory the Great chastised priests who resisted that consensus, and it was become an "almost universal practice" in the early Church, the author says.

Kneeling to receive Communion was also a pattern established early in Church history, Bishop Schneider reports. That posture, too, was seen as a means of expressing reverence for Jesus in the Eucharist, and "the most typical gesture of adoration is the biblical one of kneeling."...

Catholicism vs. Islam

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: The following is another response to Bill Maher's anti-papal and anti-Catholic comments, in relation to insensitive anti-Muslim cartoons published in newspapers...
(Counter Terrorism Blog) - His comments and my insta-reaction induce empathy for Farhana's view that the newspaper editors who re-published the cartoons could and should have shown restraint and not re-published the cartoons. But let's note the difference between the way in which the "Catholic street" treats this episode and the reaction in the "Muslim street" to the cartoons:
  • We didn't riot, didn't burn effigies of Maher in the street, and didn't kill or injure innocent civilians over it;
  • We didn't threaten to kill or injure Maher or any HBO employee, and didn't destroy or threaten to destroy any HBO property around the world;
  • No country in which Catholics are a clear majority, nor the Vatican (the only truly "Catholic nation" left on earth), used the power of the state to protest by initiating or threatening a nationwide boycott; none recalled their ambassadors to the U.S.; none even lodged an official protest. To my knowledge, no country has cut HBO from their cable TV networks.
I'm certainly not saying Catholics are "better people" than Muslims. We have many positive lessons to learn from each other; in this case, Muslims should learn from Catholics the necessity to protest peacefully. (They could also learn that lesson from faithful adherents to Judaism, too, who don't violently protest insults to their faith in the Arab press.)

'The Catholic Knight' would like to reiterate that I do not believe Bill Maher should be fired or taken off the television. I believe his anti-Catholic bigotry is reflective of the views held by those who own and operate the mainstream entertainment media. If they were not, Maher would have been fired already. To fire Bill Maher now, would only leave the mainstream entertainment media without accurate representation to the general public. We need bigots like Bill Maher on the television to remind us of what the mainstream entertainment media really thinks about Catholics and the Roman Catholic religion. This is why 'The Catholic Knight' has not joined petition efforts to have Bill Maher fired.

Hitler's Pope Moves Toward Sainthood

(Reuters) - The Vatican's top saint-maker said on Monday he was moving ahead with the cause of wartime Pope Pius XII, and defended him against accusations he was silent about the Holocaust.

Some critics accuse Pius, who reigned from 1939 to 1958, of being indifferent to the Holocaust and not speaking out against Hitler. His supporters consider him a holy man who worked behind the scenes to help Jews throughout Europe.

Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins denied that the sainthood process had been halted over the controversy, as a newspaper report last year suggested.

"It has not been staggered, much less stopped," Martins, who heads the Vatican department that oversees the sainthood process, told reporters....

Pope Condemns Cafeteria Catholicism

( - At a Q&A session following Pope Benedict XVI's Wednesday address to the Bishops of the United States, he addressed the "particular problem" of secularism in America. While it allows profession of belief in God, it "can subtly reduce religious belief to a lowest common denominator," he said. Thus there is a separation "of faith from life: living 'as if God did not exist'."

The Pope noted that rather than "thinking with the Church", some Catholics believe they have "a right to pick and choose" in the faith, "maintaining external social bonds but without an integral, interior conversion to the law of Christ."

"We have seen this emerge in an acute way in the scandal given by Catholics who promote an alleged right to abortion," he lamented....

Pope Benedict XVI Prepares To Purge Priesthood

( - At the cathedral, Benedict touched on the theme of his trip — Christian hope — saying he wanted to communicate the joy born of faith to a cynical world.

But since the start of his trip Tuesday, Benedict has concentrated on the clergy sex abuse scandal that has shaken the U.S. church. He has said that it is more important to have good priests than many priests.

A top Vatican official now says the Roman Catholic Church is weighing a further change to clean up the clergy: revising church law so predators could be more easily removed.

"It's possible," said Cardinal William Levada, head of the Vatican office that reviews abuse claims against priests worldwide.

"There are some things under consideration that I'm not able to say," Levada told reporters Friday, in a meeting at Time magazine's offices. A Vatican spokesman stressed Saturday that no immediate changes are planned.

It is the latest signal during Benedict's first papal visit to America that he is intent on purifying the priesthood as he affirms traditional Catholic practices and teaching.

He spoke privately with victims — in what is believed to be the first time a pope has met with people who had been abused by priests. He also told bishops the problem had sometimes been very "badly handled" — an indirect but clear papal admonition....

Left-Wing Liberals Are The Real Nazis

In response to Left-Wing Liberals, like Bill Maher, who hate Catholicism and everything it represents, THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT offers the following analysis...
The resemblance is uncanny. The only significant difference is that Nazis hated all Jews, where as many Left-Wing Liberals these days only hate the modern nation-state of Israel. Nazis were also racists of the worst sort. Left-Wing Liberals are generally not racists per se,' but they do frequently bait racial issues for their own political gain or to silence opposition. So in spite of the uncanny similarities between Nazis and Left-Wing Liberals, we must note these small differences that distinguish the two.

Bill Mahar Should Stay On Television

( - After announcing that he was going to apologize to Catholics on Friday night’s show Talking Points, Bill Maher offered no apology or remorse for his statements. Earlier this week, American Life League spearheaded a unified effort among Catholics to cancel HBO subscriptions and have Maher fired.

“Not only did Maher fail to apologize, he stepped up his insult of Pope Benedict XVI by saying that he swore an oath directly to Hitler,” said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. “Maher made no apology and persists in his slander of the pope and the entire Catholic Church, and for that he must be fired.”...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT believes Judie Brown, of the American Life League, may have the best of intentions, but her solution is wrong. 'The Catholic Knight' sincerely believes anti-Catholics like Bill Maher should stay on television. Why? Because bigots like Maher are perfectly representative of the type of people running the media and entertainment industry.  Believe me, if they didn't feel this way about Catholicism, they would have taken Bill Maher off the air already.  The very fact that Judie Brown (God bless her) has to launch an Internet campaign to get him fired reveals so much about those running the television and cable outlets these days.

The Catholic Knight has a different perspective though.  You see, to fire Bill Maher, or yank his show, would be to leave America's entertainment industry without proper representation to the general public. I say thank God for bigots like Bill Maher. Were it not for people like him, we might never know what Hollywood and the media outlets really think of the pope, Catholicism and Christianity in general. I say keep him on television, and if anything reward him with larger syndication across the major networks. Then sign him some movie deals wherein he can generously ad lib anti-papal and anti-Catholic monologues to his heart's content. Then, and only then, will the media be properly represented, and Catholics across America (and Canada) will finally know what those running the media really think of us.

Papal Mass in New York a Liturgical Success

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: After the liturgical debacle at Nationals Stadium in Washington DC, Pope Benedict XVI showed Americans how to do it right at St. Patrick's Church in New York. Solemnity was in the atmosphere. The people were reverent. The music was appropriate. The language of the Church (Latin) was used intermittently.  Gregorian chant mingled with the echo of organ pipes.  Some of the women were even veiled.  For a moment, heaven touched earth.  This is what a modern Catholic mass is supposed to look like. We can only hope that our clergy, and choir directors, from around the country were taking some notes. You can watch the full video HERE.

Republican Lawmaker Insults Pope

( - Rep. Tom Tancredo – who vied for the Republican presidential nomination to make illegal immigration a priority issue – suggested in a House speech yesterday that Pope Benedict XVI is encouraging Latin Americans to come to the U.S. to bolster flagging membership in the Catholic Church.

The pontiff, asked by reporters on his flight to the U.S. Tuesday if he would address Hispanic immigration, said the U.S. must do "everything possible to fight ... all forms of violence so that immigrants may lead dignified lives."

Tancredo, a former Catholic, told House colleagues, "I would like to know what part of our lax immigration policy is considered 'violent.' I fail to see how accepting more refugees than any other nation while providing free health care, free education, free housing and free social service benefits to millions of illegal aliens in this country is any way 'degrading' to them or 'undignified.'"...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: You know, this really scuffs my armor!  I used to like Congressman Tancredo.  The story notes that he's a "former Catholic," and perhaps that has something to do with it.  It seems that the congressman is willing to jump to conclusions, and rush to judgment, on his former chief pastor all to quickly.

The pope is not advocating wide-open boarders with a Hispanic migration free-for-all.  He's talking about how immigrants are treated, both in our country, and in the country from which they came.  There is a reason why some people use desperate means to cross the border, and it usually has something to do with the fact that their own government in Mexico doesn't give a rat's tail about them.

Securing our southern boarder is going to take a whole lot more than a fence.  First things first, we do need to create a formidable barrier down there.  Second, we need to simultaneously create a well regulated and manageable work-program, in which migrant workers can be documented and tracked electronically.  Crossing the boarder illegally is dangerous.  That region is regularly patrolled by criminal bandits and predators from both sides of the Rio Grande.  Surly that is a big part of the "violence" the pope is referring to.  Third, we need to see to it that immigrants from other cultures fully assimilate into the United States culture.  This reduces bigotry and resentment among those who have lived here longer.  Fourth, our own government needs to work with the Mexican government in rooting out corruption, and reforming socialist policies that have raped the Mexican economy, and forced this massive illegal colonization problem were having here in the United States.   All of this works toward reducing violence toward immigrants.

Congressman Tancredo, the pope did not tell the United States to open the flood gates.  He did not tell Americans to allow illegal immigration.  Nor did he specifically refer to American immigration policy as "violent."  That sir, is an ASSUMPTION on your part, and I dare say you have ASSUMED in error.  Finally, to accuse the pope of saying this only because he's trying to bolster the Catholic population in the U.S. is insulting!  To accuse the pope of advocating that people break our laws, for nothing more than his own profit, is to call him a liar, a hypocrite and a thief.  If that's how you really feel Congressmen, then start the ball rolling to revoke his visa today, and send the INS to his hotel room tonight, so they can deport him back to Rome immediately!  Otherwise put a sock in it.  I seriously wonder how much of this is your own anti-Catholic bias talking.  In my experience, former Catholic often make the worst anti-Catholics.

Pope Urges Fight Against Gay-Marriage

( - While largely ignored by much of the major media, Pope Benedict XVI admonished the nation's Catholic bishops to promote traditional marriage in a speech delivered Wednesday after a vespers service at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.

"It is your task to proclaim boldly the arguments from faith and reason in favor of the institution of marriage, understood as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, open to the transmission of life," the pope told the gathering of more than 300 bishops.

"This message should resonate with people today, because it is essentially an unconditional and unreserved 'yes' to life, a 'yes' to love and a 'yes' to the aspirations at the heart of our common humanity, as we strive to fulfill our deep yearning for intimacy with others and with the Lord," the pope added.

Benedict linked the priest sex-abuse scandal to a wider context: the failure of bishops to stand up for and proclaim "authentic moral values" in the public square....

GOTCHA! Pro-Abort Catholic Politicians Caught on Camera Receiving Communion

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Pope Benedict XVI, invoking the force of the Church's canon law, has forbidden Pro-Abortion Catholics from receiving communion. This especially applies to Pro-Abortion Catholic politicians, and it is nothing new. The same policy existed under Pope John Paul II, and Pro-Abortion Catholic politicians commit a mortal sin by receiving the sacrament. In this case, the act was planned and orchestrated by Pro-Abort politicians trying to make a statement. In an act that deliberately broke the Church's Canon Law, and slapped Pope Benedict XVI in the face, Senators John Kerry and Christopher Dodd were caught on camera. The statement was designed to tell Pro-Abortion Catholics nationwide that it's "okay" to receive communion in the Church because the Church's teaching on human life is irrelevant. If they could do it at a papal mass, than any Pro-Abort Catholic anywhere can do it...

Shame on them for doing this! They deliberately used the pope's visit to make a political statement. It's a statement the Church deems heretical. Senator Ted Kennedy on the other hand, also a Pro-Abort Catholic politician, had the good sense to respect the Church's teachings on communion by remaining in his seat. This is what Senators John Kerry and Christopher Dodd should have done IF they were honorable men. Their action today proves that this pope is nothing more than a political puppet to them, and his visit to the United States was nothing more than an opportunity to slap him in the face while making a political statement.

Papal Mass in Washington a Liturgical Disaster

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: It was the good, the bad and the ugly. These three words describe the papal mass in Nationals Stadium today. The homily was good, of course, and so was the candle arrangement on the alter. The English liturgy was bad, but we've known that for years. In fact, Pope Benedict XVI was today subjected to a liturgical standard banned by the Vatican two years ago. The English speaking Church no longer has permission to use the current English translation of the mass. The only reason why English speaking Catholics don't use another translation is because one hasn't been approved yet. Don't blame the Vatican. It's been ready to approve a new version for years now. It's the English speaking bishops who are dragging their feet. But then we have the ugly, which is the only word that can accurately describe the music selection used in the stadium, which went against everything Pope Benedict XVI has ever written on liturgical music. The pontiff was a good sport about it. He tolerated it all with a smile, but anyone who knows anything about the man, knows he must have been cringing inside....

New Scandal Marks Pope's Visit

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Sound the alarm! Pro-Abortion Catholic politicians are at it again. Now they have used the pope's visit to scandalize his teachings and mock Church law. Shame on them.

This act is designed by Speaker Nanci Pelosi and Senator John Kerry to make a political statement during the pope's visit. What is that statement? Simply put, they are stating that the Church's teachings on Life mean nothing. They're stating that it's okay for pro-abortion Catholics to receive communion, because they did, in a mass celebrated by the pope himself. It's the ultimate slap in the pope's face, and a public declaration of heresy these two have made over and over again. Why they have not been formally excommunicated I'll never know...
( - When Pope Benedict XVI celebrates the Eucharistic liturgy today at National’s Stadium in Washington, D.C. there will be all sorts of people in line to receive Holy Communion. Some of the most prominent figures will be Catholic, pro-choice, politicians such as Nancy Pelosi and John Kerri. Both have indicated that they intend to receive communion at today’s Mass.

The Holy Father has been very clear that Catholics who hold points of view that are contrary to the moral and ethical teachings of the Catholic Church should not receive Holy Communion. In May of 2007, a reporter aboard the Pope’s plane enroute to Brazil asked the Holy Father if he supported the Mexican bishops in their warning to politicians who supported legalizing abortion that they would face excommunication. The Pope responded saying, "Yes, this excommunication was not an arbitrary one but is allowed by Canon law which says that the killing of an innocent child is incompatible with receiving communion, which is receiving the body of Christ."

More recently, a Youtube video has surfaced of Cardinal Arinze responding to a question on the same topic. Speaking at a “Q & A” session at a gathering at Familyland USA in 2007, the cardinal, prefect for the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, said the answer to the question is so obvious that even children preparing for First Communion could answer it correctly.

The cardinal noted that he was once asked if a politician who votes for abortion should receive Holy Communion. “Do you really need a cardinal from the Vatican to answer that?" he responded. "Get the children for First Communion and say to them, ‘Somebody votes for the killing of unborn babies, and says, I voted for that, I will vote for that every time and these babies are killed, not one or two, but in millions, and that person says I am a practicing Catholic, should that person receive communion next Sunday?’ The children for First Communion will answer that at the drop of a hat. You don’t need a cardinal to answer that."

He further said that the Congregation on the Doctrine of the Faith, sent a letter to the American bishops on this issue in 2002, that among other things discussed this issue. “So the matter is very clear,” Cardinal Arinze said...

Pro-Abort Politicians Mock Church As They Sneak Communion From Pope

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi kissed the pope's ring just two days
before she publicly mocked his teachings.

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Yes, that's right. The pro-abortion (so-called "pro-choice") Catholic politicians in Washington DC are attempting to sneak communion from Pope Benedict XVI though one of the 300 priests assisting him in mass today. In doing so they mock Church teaching, ignore canon law, bring scandal upon the faithful and hold Pope Benedict XVI in contempt. They also commit a mortal sin, if that's of any consequence to them...
(AP) - Catholic members of Congress who publicly support the right to abortion will trek to Nationals Park Thursday for a Mass celebrated by a pope who has said such lawmakers should not receive Communion.

Leading these lawmakers, some of whom have repeatedly complained about remarks by Pope Benedict XVI and a few bishops on the subject, will be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the government's highest-ranking Catholic and a supporter of abortion rights. Nowhere in her remarks or her actions this week has she referred to strains with the new pontiff.

Instead, she bent to kiss his ring at the White House Wednesday as Benedict arrived in a blaze of pageantry, and later she spoke glowingly on the House floor about his commitment to truth, justice and freedom. A week before he arrived, the House passed a resolution welcoming him to Washington.

And yes, her spokesman said, she intends to receive Communion from one of the 300 priests and lay ministers who will offer it to the gathered flock of 45,000....

Here are Pope Benedict's words on this very thing...
5. Regarding the grave sin of abortion or euthanasia, when a person’s formal cooperation becomes manifest (understood, in the case of a Catholic politician, as his consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws), his Pastor should meet with him, instructing him about the Church’s teaching, informing him that he is not to present himself for Holy Communion until he brings to an end the objective situation of sin, and warning him that he will otherwise be denied the Eucharist.

So Much For Private Religion

"In Christianity, there can be no room for purely private religion: Christ is the Savior of the world. To the extent that religion becomes a purely private affair, it loses its very soul."
- Pope Benedict XVI, April 16, 2008

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: How many people do you know say they believe in God (even in Jesus Christ), but they feel no need to attend a church. They are perfectly content to "practice their own way in the privacy of their own home." According to the pope anyway, this philiosophy completely undermines the whole message of the Christian faith.

The Pope & The President

( - Pope Benedict XVI was expected Wednesday to raise sensitive issues such as the Iraq war and Hispanic immigration when he meets with President George W. Bush on the second day of a US visit that began under the cloud of a clergy sex scandal.

On the flight from Rome to Washington Tuesday, Benedict told reporters he felt "deeply ashamed" by the child abuse scandal that has rocked the US church, and would use his first visit as pope to the United States to try to "heal the wounds caused by pedophile priests."

He also vowed to raise the issue of immigration when he holds one-on-one talks with Bush at the White House on Wednesday.

The United States must do "everything possible to fight ... all forms of violence so that immigrants may lead dignified lives," the pope said in response to a reporter's question about whether he would address the issue of Latin American immigrants with the US leader.

Hispanics make up nearly 40 percent of the 70 million Catholics in the United States and are increasingly targeted by a crackdown in the United States on illegal immigrants.

Benedict was also expected to discuss with Bush the US involvement in Iraq, where more than 4,000 US soldiers have died in a war launched by the United States against firm opposition from the Vatican.

"There was a difference of opinion back in 2003, when the war began, and beyond", White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters.

"But I do think that they share an agreement that in order to stabilize the region and promote human rights and justice, having our troops there has been helpful," she added....

Racism & Abortion Linked

(Spero News) - Dr. Alveda King, Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., today said that racism and abortion are linked.

"Abortion and racism are both symptoms of a fundamental human error," stated Dr. King. "The error is thinking that when someone stands in the way of our wants, we can justify getting that person out of our lives. Abortion and racism stem from the same poisonous root, selfishness."

"Of course, to get someone out of our way, we have to come up with rationales for doing so," added Dr. King. "We create the deceptions that the other person is less important, less worthy, less human. These pretenses help us feel a bit better about discriminating against someone because of his skin color or gestational age, but they're still lies and our actions are still wrong."...

Islamists Declare War On Catholicism

(FoxNews) - A sermon last Friday by a prominent Muslim cleric and Hamas member of the Palestinian parliament openly declared that "the capital of the Catholics, or the Crusader capital," would soon be conquered by Islam.

The fiery sermon, delivered by Yunis al-Astal and aired on Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV, predicted that Rome would become "an advanced post for the Islamic conquests, which will spread though Europe in its entirety, and then will turn to the two Americas, even Eastern Europe."

"Allah has chosen you for Himself and for His religion," al-Astal preached, "so that you will serve as the engine pulling this nation to the phase of succession, security and consolidation of power, and even to conquests through da'wa and military conquests of the capitals of the entire world.

"Very soon, Allah willing, Rome will be conquered, just like Constantinople was, as was prophesized by our prophet Muhammad," he added.

Al-Astal last June preached how it was the duty of Palestinian women to martyr themselves by becoming homicide bombers.

"The most exalted form of jihad is fighting for the sake of Allah, which means sacrificing one's soul by fighting the enemies head-on, even if it leads to martyrdom," he said in a June 23, 2007 interview....

(AP) — Suspected al-Qaida-linked militants bombed a Roman Catholic cathedral compound and a bank in the southern Philippines, police said. No one was injured in Sunday's blasts.

Police have been placed on the highest level of security following the dawn explosions in Zamboanga city, regional police Chief Superintendent Jaime Caringal said.

Zamboanga, 530 miles south of Manila, is home to U.S. troops providing counterterrorism training to Filipino soldiers, and the military says more than 300 al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf militants are based in the area. The Abu Sayyaf appear on U.S. and European terrorist lists for ransom kidnappings, beheadings and bomb attacks.

Caringal said a mortar round exploded under a car in the parking lot of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, damaging two cars.

A church caretaker saw three men fleeing the scene on a motorcycle shortly before the blast, Caringal said. The caretaker said the men talked in a dialect spoken on Jolo, a mostly Muslim island.

Police suspect the men were Abu Sayyaf or Jemaah Islamiyah militants, Caringal said....

US Supreme Court Sticks It To Bush, UN, and New World Order

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: The US Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice John Roberts, has stuck it to President Bush, the UN, and the New World Order, by ruling that the United States of America is still a sovereign nation and governs itself. The ruling is a significant blow to the emerging NAU, the New World Order, and the globalist agenda of President George W. Bush. It also undermines the agenda of radical international abortionists...
( - A recent U.S. Supreme Court decision reaffirmed the right of the United States to govern its affairs in accordance with the US Constitution rather than specific provisions of international treaties. In the process, the Court rejected a directive of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Medellín v. Texas not only reaffirmed principles of sovereignty and self-government, but also undercut arguments of international pro-abortion activists that accession to international treaties requires nations to disregard domestic constitutional protections for the unborn.

In a 6-3 decision authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, the Court rejected the argument that Texas law enforcement officials were required to notify a Mexican murder suspect of his right under international law to contact his country’s consulate following his arrest. An order by the ICJ – the United Nations’ “principal judicial organ” headquartered at The Hague, also known as the “World Court” – had directed that the Mexican national was entitled to have his case reviewed by the state court based a provision of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, a treaty which the U.S. has ratified.

The Bush Administration had urged compliance with the ICJ decision, arguing that the executive branch had authority to direct a state court to give it effect. Analyzing the separation of powers set forth in the Constitution and case law dating back to the early decades of the Republic, the Supreme Court ruled that the President lacked such authority...

Genocide American Style

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: I have always believed that the black population in the United States of America is the victim of a systematic and insidious type of genocide. No, the culprit is not drugs, and no it's not AIDS either. The culprit is abortion on demand. Abortion disproportionately affects blacks in this nation by a sizable margin, and this is not by accident. I believe it is by design.

I personally believe that certain people, both in the present and the past, have planned a clever way for blacks to exterminate themselves using abortion. This is done by focused marketing of abortion to black women. I believe the origin of this is racist to the core, and it is the final insult to the black race in this land. What began as slavery was latter institutionalized as segregation. When segregation failed, abortion (extermination) became their solution. So who's behind it? Take a good look around and see who the biggest advocates of abortion are.

Planned Parenthood, was founded by Margaret Sanger, who was a racist of the worst sort, advocating Nazi style extermination of 'undesirables.' She referred to blacks as "human weeds" and "reckless breeders." She said they were "spawning... human beings who never should have been born." (Margaret Sanger, Pivot of Civilization) This is the FOUNDER of Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest advocate of abortion on demand, and biggest provider of abortion to black women. (read more here) Every year politicians bow down to the political might of this organization, and through our own government, they are able to keep abortion legal and subsidized with American tax dollars.

Who's against this systematic extermination? To answer that, we must ask another question. Who is advocating for blacks in this nation? Take a good look around and you'll discover it's the same people and groups who advocated the end of segregation and slavery. They were churches and religious organizations. Now they're advocating the end of abortion on demand in this country. There really is no mystery here. Do a little homework and the answer will jump off the pages of history at you.

Yes, 'The Catholic Knight' is in the business of "putting the sword to the dictatorship of relativism!" Abortion in America is a racist business. It is an intrinsically moral evil, and its objectives are very clear to anyone willing to open his eyes and witness the naked truth....
(FoxNews) - The revelation a few weeks ago that Planned Parenthood employees had encouraged telephone donations from callers hoping to facilitate abortions of black babies — money that was "offered" from members of an anti-abortion group at UCLA — led to a quick apology from the family planning organization. Planned Parenthood said its employees made a "serious mistake" in encouraging the donations.

The callers contacted Planned Parenthood's vice presidents of development and marketing in Idaho and Oklahoma, other officials at their Ohio and New Mexico offices and officials in three other (so far) unnamed states because the UCLA group suspected that Planned Parenthood was specifically targeting minorities and minority neighborhoods for abortions....

....Blacks do, indeed, have much higher rates of abortions than whites or other minority groups. In 2000, while blacks made up 17 percent of live births, they made up more than twice that share of abortions (36 percent). If those aborted children had been born, the number of blacks born would have been slightly over 50 percent greater than it was.

The comparison with whites and other minorities is striking. Whites made up 78 percent of live births, but only 57 percent of abortions. Non-black minorities had 7 percent of live births and 5 percent of abortions. If the aborted children had been born for either group, the percentage increase in the number of children born to these groups would have been less than that for blacks: 16 and 32 percent, respectively.

Data from 1973 on indicate that black women's share of abortions has consistently been at least twice their share of live births.....

Pope's Message To The United States

Read the full message below...
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the United States of America,

The grace and peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you! In just a few days from now, I shall begin my apostolic visit to your beloved country. Before setting off, I would like to offer you a heartfelt greeting and an invitation to prayer. As you know, I shall only be able to visit two cities: Washington and New York. The intention behind my visit, though, is to reach out spiritually to all Catholics in the United States. At the same time, I earnestly hope that my presence among you will be seen as a fraternal gesture towards every ecclesial community, and a sign of friendship for members of other religious traditions and all men and women of good will. The risen Lord entrusted the Apostles and the Church with his Gospel of love and peace, and his intention in doing so was that the message should be passed on to all peoples.

At this point I should like to add some words of thanks, because I am conscious that many people have been working hard for a long time, both in Church circles and in the public services, to prepare for my journey. I am especially grateful to all who have been praying for the success of the visit, since prayer is the most important element of all. Dear friends, I say this because I am convinced that without the power of prayer, without that intimate union with the Lord, our human endeavours would achieve very little. Indeed this is what our faith teaches us. It is God who saves us, he saves the world, and all of history. He is the Shepherd of his people. I am coming, sent by Jesus Christ, to bring you his word of life.

Together with your Bishops, I have chosen as the theme of my journey three simple but essential words: "Christ our hope". Following in the footsteps of my venerable predecessors, Paul VI and John Paul II, I shall come to United States of America as Pope for the first time, to proclaim this great truth: Jesus Christ is hope for men and women of every language, race, culture and social condition. Yes, Christ is the face of God present among us. Through him, our lives reach fullness, and together, both as individuals and peoples, we can become a family united by fraternal love, according to the eternal plan of God the Father. I know how deeply rooted this Gospel message is in your country. I am coming to share it with you, in a series of celebrations and gatherings. I shall also bring the message of Christian hope to the great Assembly of the United Nations, to the representatives of all the peoples of the world. Indeed, the world has greater need of hope than ever: hope for peace, for justice, and for freedom, but this hope can never be fulfilled without obedience to the law of God, which Christ brought to fulfilment in the commandment to love one another. Do to others as you would have them do to you, and avoid doing what you would not want them to do. This "golden rule" is given in the Bible, but it is valid for all people, including non-believers. It is the law written on the human heart; on this we can all agree, so that when we come to address other matters we can do so in a positive and constructive manner for the entire human community.

Dear brothers and sisters, dear friends in the United States, I am very much looking forward to being with you. I want you to know that, even if my itinerary is short, with just a few engagements, my heart is close to all of you, especially to the sick, the weak, and the lonely. I thank you once again for your prayerful support of my mission. I reach out to every one of you with affection, and I invoke upon you the maternal protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Que la Virgen María les acompañe y proteja. Que Dios les bendiga.

May God bless you all.

What Is Roman Catholicism?

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Some of my non-Catholic readers may have questions about the Catholic Christian faith. I'll do my best to answer a few of those question here, and direct you to resources that can answer in greater detail....

Q. What is Roman Catholicism?
A. The term "Roman Catholicism" is typically used to describe the Catholic Christian faith. The word "Catholic" means "universal" and "complete." It means two things. It means the Church is not limited to any particular nation, state, culture or ethnicity. It also means the faith itself is complete or unabridged. Typically, those Christians in full communion with the pope in Rome are called "Roman Catholic." The Roman Catholic Church is the world's largest Christian denomination, consisting of some 1.1 billion believers. In contrast; all Protestant, Evangelical and Pentecostal churches combined, consist of a mere 455 million believers.

Q. Is Catholicism a Christian faith?
A. Yes, Catholic Christianity is fully Christian in every sense. In fact, it is the world's oldest Christian church, founded by Jesus Christ himself in 33 AD and established in Rome by the apostles Peter and Paul in about 42 AD. Peter and Paul were both martyred in Rome in about 67 AD, and since then Rome has been the official headquarters of the Catholic Church. All other Christian denominations can trace their origin back to Christ through the Catholic Church. Case in point, the Eastern Orthodox Christians were fully part of the Catholic Church, and in union with the pope, up until about 1054 AD when they broke with Rome primarily over political issues. All of the Protestant, Baptist, Pentecostal, Evangelical, and nondenominational churches of today can trace their roots back to Christ through the Protestant Reformation, when prior to that, they were all Christians within the Roman Catholic Church.

Q. Is Catholicism a cult?
A. Sometimes small groups of non-Catholics, particularly Evangelical and Pentecostal Protestants, will hold to a philosophy called Fundamentalism. Some Fundamentalist Protestants occasionally label any religion that disagrees with them as a "cult." This does not match the classical understanding of the word, and when Fundamentalists do this with Catholicism, it's sort of like the pot calling the kettle "black!" Catholicism is no more a cult than mainstream Protestantism is, and any mainstream Christian group for that matter. So if believing in Jesus Christ makes one a "cult," then I guess Catholicism is just as guilty as any other mainstream Christian group.

Q. What do Catholics believe?
A. Catholics believe all of the essential Christian dogma necessary for being considered Christian. Catholics believe in the Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three Persons in one God. Catholics believe in the Incarnation; Jesus is both fully man and fully God. Catholics believe salvation comes ONLY through Jesus Christ and no other. Catholics believe in the necessity of TRUSTING in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. The rest of the basics can be illustrated in the Nicene Creed, which Catholics memorize and pray at every Sunday mass...

I believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.

I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, light from light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father [and the Son],
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

These are the core beliefs of Catholicism. Beyond that, Catholics also believe in some doctrines not shared by other Christians -- particularly those of the Protestant persuasion. Most of these doctrines are peripheral in nature, and while Protestants may not agree with them, these beliefs in no way contradict the core Christian doctrine described above.

Q. Do Catholics worship Mary?
A. No. Catholics are forbidden from worshiping anyone or anything other than God, as defined by the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Mary (the mother of Christ) holds a special place of honor in the Catholic Church, but she is not worshiped. Any Catholic who worships Mary, or anyone other than God, is liable to be excommunicated from the Catholic Church for idolatry.

Q. Why do Catholics pray to Mary and the Saints?
A. Catholics fully understand the nature of the Body of Christ. The Holy Spirit of God binds all Christians together in a spiritual bond that cannot be broken. Death has no power over this bond. Even after death, Christians are still connected to each other through the Holy Spirit. This allows Christians in heaven to be aware of the spiritual needs of Christians on earth, and through the Holy Spirit they can "hear" or "know" the prayers of the living, and in turn pray for their needs. Catholics, along with Eastern Orthodox Christians, have no problem asking Christians in heaven to become our prayer-partners. When Catholic or Orthodox Christians pray to the Saints (Christians in heaven), they are simply asking them to be prayer-partners. In other words, Catholics and Orthodox Christians pray WITH the Saints in heaven and not really TO them, because all prayers are ultimately directed toward God.

Q. Do Catholics use idols?
A. No, of course not. The use of pictures and statues (iconography) in churches has always been used as a way of telling a story visually. It's no different then when parents use picture books to explain things to small children. The icons (statues and pictures) serve to visually tell a story, and remind people of some Christian truth. Other Christians (including many Protestants) use similar pictures and statues to do the same thing. Catholics do not worship these icons, so they cannot be idols. An idol is a statue of a false god that is worshiped. Catholics do not make statues of false gods to begin with, and we would never worship any statue we make regardless of who is being depicted. Some Protestants, of the Fundamentalist persuasion, will cite Biblical prohibitions against the making of any "graven image" as an act of idolatry, regardless of the intention behind it. Such interpretations actually contradict the Scriptures. Just five chapters after God prohibited the ancient Israelites from making graven images of false gods (Exodus 20:4-5), he actually commanded them to make graven images of angelic creatures (Exodus 25:18-19). Clearly this Biblical mandate to the Israelites demonstrates that God is not against iconography in general, but instead prohibits images made for the purpose of worshiping false gods. Since Catholics do not make images of false gods, and they do not worship the images either, then by definition they cannot be idols.

Q. Do Catholics believe they get a "second chance" in Purgatory?
A. No. The doctrine of purgatory is highly misunderstood by Protestants, and even some Catholics. Purgatory is not a "second chance" for anyone. Catholics believe that when someone dies, their soul either goes to heaven or hell. That's it! No second chance. Perhaps the best way to describe purgatory is to think of it as heaven's front gate. It's like a fiery archway, the fire representing Christ's holy love for us, in which those who have not followed Christ perfectly are bathed in this fire for purification before entering heaven. The Church only teaches two things about purgatory. One, it exits. Two, our prayers help those who are there. So Catholics regularly pray for the holy souls in purgatory, asking that God will hurry in their purification, so that they may more quickly enter the full bliss of heaven. These beliefs are based on Biblical Scriptures frequently omitted from non-Catholic Bibles.

Q. Why do Catholics confess their sins to a priest and not to God?
A. Actually, Catholics do confess their sins to God directly. However, a priest is typically used during this process both as a guide and a representative. Christ gave this authority to the apostles (and their successors) in John 20:21-23. In the Sacrament of Confession, Catholics confess their sins openly to God, and the priest helps them through this process. Then the confessor is required to ask God for forgiveness directly in prayer. After this the priest acts as a representative of Christ and pronounces his forgiveness to the confessor. This is what goes on in the confessional.

Q. Why does the Catholic Bible have more books?
A. The Catholic Church officially uses the older canon of Scripture that was not abridged by the Protestant Reformation. The original Bible consisted of 46 Old Testament books, and 27 New Testament books. All Christians used this version of the Bible prior to the Reformation. The Protestant Bible was abridged (shortened) by Martin Luther in the 16th century, when he removed 7 books from the Old Testament and shorten the books of Esther and Daniel. He did this because he disagreed with some of these books, and he sought to make the Christian Bible match the Jewish Bible more closely. Then he removed 4 books from the New Testament; Hebrews, James, Jude and Revelation. Again, he disagreed with those books and so he removed them. Protestants in other countries liked the revisions Luther made to the Old Testament, but thought he went too far with his changes to the New Testament. After Luther's death, his followers placed the 4 New Testament books back into the Protestant Bible. In the years that followed, this became the standard Protestant Bible; a full New Testament (27 books) unchanged from the Catholic version, with an abridged (shortened) Old Testament (39 books) minus chapters from Esther and Daniel.

Q. Do Catholics read the Scriptures?
A. Yes, and in some cases, probably more than some Protestants do. The organization of the entire mass (divine liturgy) is based on Scripture. In fact, the mass is chalk full of Scripture. Aside from the prayers and responses, many of which can be found in the Bible, the Sunday mass consists of a reading from the Old Testament, the New Testament, a psalm and one of the four gospels. In addition to this, Catholics can participate in weekday masses, wherein they can find almost as much readings from the Bible, and then there is the Liturgy of the Hours (divine office), in which Catholics can become very familiarized with the psalms. Some Catholics go to Bible studies, which are held either in the parish chapel or in someone's home. A good number of Catholics also study the Scriptures in their own homes, with their own families.

Q. Do Catholics believe they "re-sacrifice" Christ during the mass?
A. No. This is a common misunderstanding. Catholics believe the living Christ becomes literally present (body, blood, soul and divinity) in the Eucharistic bread and wine. We do not believe he is re-sacrificed, because we know that Christ was sacrificed once and for all time on the cross at Calvary.

Q. Do Catholics believe Protestants are not Christians?
A. No. This is also another topic of misunderstanding. Catholics do not recognize the church organizations of Protestants as "churches" in the proper sense. However, we do recognize Protestants as "Christians" in the proper sense, because Protestants subscribe to all the same core beliefs Catholics do. This includes all Protestants, Baptists, Evangelicals, Pentecostals and nondenominational believers. So Catholics do fully recognize Protestants as Christians, we just don't recognize Protestant organizations as "churches" in the proper and historical sense. It might be more accurate to say we recognize such Protestant organizations as modern "assemblies" of like-minded Christians.

Q. Why do Catholics believe the pope is infallible?
A. Again, this is somewhat of a misnomer. Catholics don't believe the pope himself is infallible. We believe the pope can make infallible statements, when he exercises his apostolic ministry from the Chair of Peter. The word infallible means "without error," and it simply means something that is true. School teachers make infallible statements about mathematics all the time, when they teach their students that 2+2=4. It can never equal 5, and it can never equal 3. It always equals 4. Therefore, this mathematical statement is infallible, meaning that it is truth and without error. Catholics believe the pope is given a special grace by the Holy Spirit to make similar infallible statements about faith and morality when he chooses to exercise this authority from the Chair of Peter. This is a very rare event. In recent history, this has only happened about once every hundred years. Pope John Paul II never exercised this authority during his entire 27 year pontificate. The last time this papal authority was used was in 1950 AD by Pope Pius XII. This same authority of infallibility is also exercised by the college of bishops, when they meet in ecumenical council in union with the pope. The last time this happened was in 1962 - 1965 during the Second Vatican Council. The official documents produced by that council are also considered infallible - meaning "truth" and "without error." We would dare say that some Protestant organizations claim to exercise similar authority in their denominational decisions and pronouncements, though they may not actually use the word "infallible" to describe them. Whenever a Protestant organization officially interprets a section of Scripture, and requires that all their members believe the same way, they are in effect claiming their interpretation to be "infallible."

Q. What about the recent sex-scandals surrounding the Catholic Church?
A. The sex-abuse and cover-up scandal in the Catholic Church has received a lot of disproportionate media attention. First and foremost, Catholic morality prohibits this kind of scandal totally, and those involved in this scandal were not following the Catholic faith and violating Church law. That being said, a complete investigation of the US Catholic Church, going back to 1950, revealed that approximately 5% of the Catholic clergy (priests, bishops and deacons) were involved in sexual abuse and cover-up. What people often overlook is that the investigation also revealed that 95% of Catholic clergy were not involved in any way, and were doing their jobs properly. So while a 5% minority is a tragedy, and inexcusable, it also puts the whole thing into proper perspective. We're talking about a tiny fraction of clergy in the Church causing some very big problems. Having said that, we should also point out that this percentage is about the same across all religious denominations and organizations. A similar percentage exists in the Protestant world, and the Jewish world, and even the Muslim and Buddhist world. In the secular (non-religious) world it's worse. A government sponsored investigation revealed that more than 15% of public school employees would be involved in some kind of sexual scandal during the course of their careers. The same investigation also revealed that a child is more then 100 times more likely to be sexually abused in a public school than in a Catholic Church. What makes the Catholic scandal so high-profile in the public mind is the intense media coverage, which even some media pundits admit is entirely disproportionate and biased. In comparison, sex-scandals in Protestant churches and Jewish synagogues, occurring at the same percentage, haven't received nearly the same amount of media coverage. Likewise, sex-scandals in public schools receive almost no media attention in comparison, even though media outlets have admitted the problem is much worse there.

Behold The Future - Christians Convert To Islam

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: This is what schism and liberalism has brought us to. When Christians break away from Christ's Catholic Church, to form their own churches, and when Christians of all churches embrace liberalism, or mindless ritualism without a relationship with God, this is what we get...

YES! Believe it or not this is our future. It is the future of both Europe (10 years) and America (20-30 years). When Christians refuse to be united as one, according to the Catholic and Apostolic faith, this is what we get. When Christians embrace all forms of Liberalism, this is what we get. When Christians choose ritualism over allowing the Christian faith to truly convert them, and bring them into a personal relationship with God, this is what we get. This will be the world our children will grow up in.

Militant Secularists are no help. In their stupidity they do everything within their power to deride Christianity, and drive as many people away from the Church as possible. They do so only to their own detriment, because in driving people away from Christianity, they only drive them straight into Islam. This is how the youth will overwhelmingly respond to the spiritual vacuum created by secularism in the not-too-distant future. Currently, some 20 to 30 thousand Americans convert to Islam every year.

The Legacy of Schism

Muslims Now Outnumber Catholics
( - The world's Catholics are now outnumbered by Muslims, according to the editor of the Vatican's statistical yearbook.

Msgr. Vittorio Formenti, who supervises the compilation of demographic figures for the Annuaro Pontificio, told L'Osservatore Romano that the latest data-- from 2006-- show a worldwide population of 1.115 billion Catholics, but 1.322 billion Muslims.

"For the first time in history, we are not at the top," Msgr. Formenti told the Vatican newspaper. He noted that the Catholic proportion of the world's population has held steady in recent years, while the Muslim representation has grown because of the larger family sizes in the Islamic world. Catholic families are having fewer children, he observed....

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Nearly 1,000 years ago (1054 AD) Christianity suffered the first of two major schisms that would last throughout the ages. A dispute based primarily on the politics of power, the Church was divided between east and west. Five-hundred years later (16th century), the Church would again suffer another schism between north and south. Catholic Christians in northern Europe broke away to form their own national churches (later to be called Protestant denominations), while Catholics in southern Europe remained faithful to the universal Church and the apostolic see. These schisms remain in place today. The Eastern Orthodox have preserved their identity entirely, minus their communion with Rome. The Protestants of northern Europe have splintered into literally thousands of denominations, sects and affiliations, many unrecognizable from their origin, and their schism with Rome remains in full effect.

Some non-Catholic Christians may wonder how this news has anything to do with them. Non-Catholics must realize that Catholicism is the world's largest Christian body, and now that Muslims outnumber Catholics, they have already outnumbered all other Christian groups many times over...

Number of Christians...
  • Catholic 1,115,000,000 (just over 1.1 billion)
  • Orthodox/Eastern Christian 240,000,000
  • Conservative Protestant* 200,000,000
  • Liberal Protestant 150,000,000
  • African indigenous sects 110,000,000
  • Pentecostal 105,000,000
  • Anglican 73,000,000
* By "Conservative Protestant" I mean all Evangelical, Baptist, Born-Again and Bible Christians.

In comparison the number of Muslims worldwide is 1,322,000,000 (1.3 billion).

The Devil's strategy is the same with the New Israel (The Church) as it was with Ancient Israel - divide and conquer. Since the schism of Christianity, the religion of Islam has grown, to surpass in size what is left of the original Church (Catholicism), threatening to surpass all of Christianity within the next 100 years.

In the Second Vatican Council the Catholic Church acknowledged that men on both sides were to blame for these schisms, and in AD 2000 Pope John Paul II formerly apologized for the the Catholic Church's part.

In 2008 the Vatican officially acknowledged that Muslims outnumbered Catholic Christians, and Pope Benedict XVI baptized a former Muslim on the Easter Vigil, while simultaneously calling for legal reciprocity for Christians in the Islamic world. The message of this pope about Islam echoes that of his predecessor about Communism -- Do Not Be Afraid!

To counter the Islamic threat, Christians must begin to work together, to evangelize the Muslim world whether it's legal to do so or not. For years Christians have been working underground in places like Saudi Arabia to bring Muslims to Christ, and it's working. History has proved that the blood of the martyrs are the seeds of the Church. If Muslims continue to persecute Christians in the Islamic world, then in the long run the Church will only become more powerful there than they can possibly imagine. In short, Islam's only chance for long-term survival is reciprocity. Islamic nations must give Christians the same rights and freedoms given to Muslims in Western nations, or else Islam will go down in history as the world's most intolerant religion offering nothing new other than excessive violence in the name of religion.

While this is going on, Christians must work toward putting an end to the schisms that divide us. Jesus asked in his prayer to the Father: "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." - John 17:21. In making this request he warned us of what would happen if Christians did not remain together as one. The witness of the gospel would be scandalized by division, and the world would not believe. Isn't that exactly what has happened since the schisms of 1054 and the 16th century? Christians are divided, so the world no longer believes, and instead more and more people are embracing Islam. This is just as Jesus warned in his prayer to the Father.

The Catholic Church has admitted the fault of it's role in these schisms in the Second Vatican Council, and through Pope John Paul II she has apologized for them. More than that, the Catholic Church made major changes and reforms in the Second Vatican Council to address the major issues of these schisms. The time is long since past due for a little reciprocation from the Eastern Orthodox and Protestants. In recent years we've seen small steps made by the leaders of the Eastern Orthodox churches, and these are to be applauded, but we have yet to see any movement among the Protestants. How many Protestant denominations have apologized for their role in the schism of the 16th century? As of yet - none that I am aware of. It is hard to even get some Protestants to admit that they had any role in this schism at all. Indeed, much of it is blamed solely on Catholics. If the premise of Jesus prayer is ever to be met by these groups, then Protestants must begin to question what fault lies at the feet of the Reformation fathers in this schism. Protestants who are unable to do this are being irrational and obstinate in a sin of pride.
