It's official. The Catholic Knight is retired.  I'm hanging up the helmet and passing the torch. There will be no more articles, no more commentaries, no more calls to action. THIS BLOG IS CLOSED. I've spent a very long time thinking about this, I believe the time has come, and is a bit overdue.  I want to thank my readers for everything, but most especially for your encouragement and your willingness to go out there and fight the good fight. So, that being the case, I've spend the last several weeks looking for bloggers who are fairly active, and best represent something akin to the way I think and what I believe.  I recommend the following blogs for my readers to bookmark and check on regularly. Pick one as your favourite, or pick them all. They are all great..... In His Majesty's Service, THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT

SSPX Expels Holocaust Denying Priest

(Rorate Caeli) - After repeated ambiguous declarations in the last few weeks about the Holocaust and other issues, several Italian sources report that the Italian District of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX / SSPX) has announced the expulsion of Father Floriano Abrahamowicz, the priest responsible for Northeast Italy....

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: This is good news and can only mean the following...
  1. Negotiations between the Vatican and the SSPX are still in full swing.
  2. Bishop Fellay's authority within the SSPX has been significantly boosted by the pope's removal of the four excommunications from 1988, and he now acts as Superior General enjoying the full backing of the Vatican.
  3. There is one less Holocaust denying priest in the SSPX, while if there are any others, they have just been put on notice.
  4. Holocaust denying Bishop Richard Williamson has also been put on notice.
So the question remains of why hasn't the SSPX fully expelled Bishop Williamson yet?  'The Catholic Knight' proposes the following possible explanation.  Bishop Williamson has been publicly censured by the SSPX, and forbidden to speak on historical and political matters.  The Vatican has also censured Bishop Williamson and demanded that he repent before being fully received back into the Catholic Church.  'The Catholic Knight' speculates that the reason why Bishop Williamson has not yet been fully expelled from the SSPX is because both the pope and the superior general are attempting to avoid another schism and the creation of a splinter group headed by Bishop Williamson.  A simple priest would not be able to accomplish such a schism easily, hence the timely expulsion of Father Abrahamowicz. A bishop, however, could accomplish this with much less difficulty. It is the opinion of this blogger that the Holy Father and Bishop Fellay are working together very carefully to prevent the creation of a splinter group by Bishop Williamson. This is being accomplished on the SSPX side by censuring Bishop Williamson instead of expelling him. The Vatican is following through by letting the removal of his excommunication stand, and offering him full return back into the Church (in good standing), if only he will publicly recant his views on the Holocaust and accept the teachings of Vatican II in the light of historic Church Tradition. This is a classic example of the carrot and the stick. The road to full rehabilitation is laid out before him in a very easy and relatively painless way, while the alternative is rupture and isolation. Let us pray this plan works and Bishop Williamson comes to his senses quickly.
