Now in contrast the video below represents an Ordinary Form (Novus Ordo) mass as celebrated in most English-speaking parishes. The following video is relatively tasteful, no surprises, but also very typical. You'll notice it's a far cry from what Rome intended with the Second Vatican Council as represented by the above videos...
So after viewing the above videos we have to ask ourselves what went wrong. Why is the typical English celebration of the Novus Ordo so radically different from the Ordinary Form of the mass intended by Pope Paul VI in 1969?

This bottom Mass is what I endured growing up in the 70's..I feel robbed of tradition and lucky to have retained my Faith as a Catholic in spite of it all. The Novus Ordo when celebrated correctly can mimic, albeit abbreviated, the Tridentine Liturgy, but how often do we even see this? Never in my lifetime so far. ANd whey the abbreviated NO Mass when that was already done with the so called "Low" Mass. It just does not resemble the Catholic Church as it has stood for centuries. There is no getting around that. It looks Protestant.
Ah, this is what all priests need to be re-trained at! This proves the Novus Ordo has the potential to be even more beautiful than the Tridentine Mass.
I would prefer some Latin, such as for the Our Father, Sign of the Cross, and "The Lord be with you...And with your Spirit", but most of the mass should be in the vernacular. I recently went to a Tridentine Mass, and I spent the whole mass trying to follow along in the missal...I don't think I looked up from the book once.
But I did feel the Tridentine's prayers were much more accurate and precise than the Novus Ordo. If only Pope Benedict would revise the Novus Ordo so that the Penitential Rite matches exactly the Tridentine words, and the Tridentine's canon becomes "Eucharistic Prayer 1", the current E.P 1 becomes E.P.2, the current E.P.3 remains E.P.3, the current E.P.2 (the really short one) becomes E.P.4, and the current E.P.4 is discarded (make sense?), I think the Novus Ordo would be close to perfect...if you can re-train the priests to celebrate it correctly, with the conscecration ad orientum.
The Masses at OLA in some sense take you to a heavenly place. Just watching the videos give the feel of being there and worshiping.
The other video left me feeling cold. No wonderful music to lift you up, it is sad to see the difference. I attend a Latin Rite parish which is traditional the the OF is done with reverence and very good hymns. Hopefully someday there will be Anglican Use parishes in every city or near enough to attend.
What a mess. Most modern American Catholics have NEVER witnessed what you say is the "proper intention" of the Novus Ordo. I have read both missals. Clearly there are many, many, many things missing from the 1969 Missal. I can only say what appears to be the intention--to make the Mass more appealing to Protestants by removing almost all references to Mary and the Saints. Sad. At some point, Modern American Catholics really have to take a good long hard look at the Church. The Church has left Herself. Our family couldn't find an EF Mass within 250 miles of our home. As such, we have left for SSPX. It has changed us. Something is at work there that we haven't experienced in 15 years. Unless the Church actually goes through a renewal, I doubt seriously we will be back.
junk the whole thing, and re-do any "novus ordo" in strict conformity with the ancient form. Pete Frey
Do you happen to know if there is a website that compares side by side by side the Novus Ordo, English translation of the Tridentine, and the Anglican Use, so we can see the similarities and differences?
Where can I find a Latin Novus Ordo Mass?
Magdalena, go to this website which lists the parishes in the US that have the Extraordinary Form.
