(FoxNews Business) - BP PLC's damaged well in the Gulf of Mexico is leaking between 35,000 and 60,000 barrels of oil a day, U.S. government and independent scientists said in an increased estimate Tuesday. The flow rate was previously estimated at 20,000 to 40,000 barrels per day. BP equipment now in place can capture up to 18,000 barrels a day, but BP is deploying a second option on Tuesday that can expand leak containment capacity to as much as 28,000 barrels a day, the government said in a statement.

It's worse than that. There is credible evidence that the well casing has been destroyed which means that there is no way to control the flow short of a nuclear bomb. And that may not work. Also, video of oil leaking through the sea floor has emerged, which tends to verify that the casing is gone.
