We Need More Priests Like This
THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: If only we had more courageous priests like this who would appear in city council meetings, simply exercising their rights as citizens to speak.

It is interesting to note in the video that Mayor John Cook of El Paso Texas is a Catholic originally from Brooklyn New York and that most of the El Paso city council are Catholics by birth as well. However, it seems that there is a built in anti-Catholicism in US politics, that even Catholics go along with, that implies that separation of church and state means completely ignoring any reasoning that is religiously derived.
The church officially considers health care a right (see encyclicals) but does not condone health care as a right derived from gay marriage; a point councilman O'Rourke missed. Father Rodriguez was courageous and quite eloquent in explaining the difference between opinions of Catholic individuals and official church teaching.
When we have courageous priests like this we will have courageous Catholics. There's such a vacuum now, it won't take many just a few like this.. unafraid to place his reputation on the line for the truth in charity. God Bless him.
