A Southern Catholic Look At Homosexuality

Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2357: Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

As someone who is both very interested in genetics, pyschology and how often one can influence the other, it really frequently annoys me when pro-homosexualists argue Homosexuality is 'natural' and is nature's population control.

Of course even in the most cynical darwinian understanding of evolution that is genetic folly, it has always been hard for a species to grow and survive, thats why God gave us such powerful sexual drives, homosexuality cannot be nature's population control as nature's population control is was and always will be famine pestilence, disease and war. Homosexuality is superflous, it is a choice based on pyschological predilections which are influenced by all manner of things on a person's growth into society.

Whether homosexuality is genetically or psychologically based has no bearing on whether it should become a cultural norm. With genetic treatments becoming available in the near future perhaps homosexuality that is genetically based can be cured just as deafness or any other handicap. As for the psychological element, the US has lost the concept of true masculinity and femininity (see most TV shows and movies nowadays) and unless those proper roles are recovered sexual confusion will continue.

If there is a genetic predisposition toward homosexuality, as the radicals INSIST there is, than we have no choice but to conclude that homosexuality is a disease, a genetic birth defect that should be treated as such. If however, it is psychological in nature, than it is a mental disease, like alchoholism or kleptomania that should be treated as such. If it is simply a lifestyle choice, based on the free will of the individual, than it is just sin and should be treated as such.

The irony here is the option that gives sodomites the most freedom and liberty is the "sin" option, which they could just dismiss through moral relativism. Why they would want to argue that it's genetic or psychological is beyond me. For if what they're saying is true, either one, than they need help in the form of treatment.

I think it comes down to wanting to have their cake and eat it too. They want the pomp and circumstance of Christian religion, without the morality. They want Christians in society to accept their behavior without moral question but they want to claim to be Christian at the same time. Why they don't just switch to Buddhism or Hinduism, or just call themselves Deists, is something I will probably never figure out. Maybe it's because I don't believe in being a cry baby, and I don't derive my happiness from what other people think about me. Nor do I expect others to change to accommodate my habits and eccentricities.

Sir Catholic Knight,

You absolutely have to do a post on the Fr. Michael Rodriguez of the Diocese of El Paso, if you haven't already.

Let us pray for Fr. Rodriguez and other courageous priests like him who face opposition in their defense of true Catholic teaching regarding "homosexual rights," opposition not only from outside the Church—e.g., by the media—but also from fellow priests and bishops.
For background information on Fr. Rodriguez's vigilant care of his flock and concern for the souls of the El Paso diocese, read this and watch this video of him defending Catholic teaching at an El Paso city council.

When so many Christians, including most Catholics, live in contradiction to what the Church teaches on marriage the result is gay marriage.

Most treat marriage as a partnership. A partnership that can be terminated and started up with someone else when it becomes inconvenient rather than a sacrament with a chief intention of procreating life. This is why all the gays feel they can be married. If society treated marriage for what it really is, a life long bond with the chief purpose of having children and raising them the homosexuals would want no part of marriage.

We as a society reap what we sow.
