How To Dress For Mass

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Occasionally I'll invite a non-Catholic friend to mass with me, and when I do, this question frequently comes up. "What should I wear?"

Wow! If they only knew how profound of a question that really is. You see, I live in the Bible Belt of the United States, and here most people are Baptist or Pentecostal. These good folks have little knowledge of Catholicism, and so they really don't know what to expect. Most of the time I tell them to simply dress semi-formal. A clean shirt and slacks (or skirt for the ladies) will do nicely. That's mainly because there aren't that many traditional Catholic churches out here, and most Catholic tradition in this area has gone by the wayside anyway. Sadly, most Catholics don't even know how to dress for mass anymore. So that's why I decided to publish this post. How should we dress for mass, in an ideal world, where we honor our Catholic tradition fully and without shame? The following are some suggestions. Please excuse the diagrams, they were designed for a medical college. Just mentally insert a cross, or saint medal, where the ID badge is...

Men probably have the most simple dress code for Sunday mass, though probably not the most comfortable. The idea of "putting on your Sunday best" is not necessarily for your benefit. Men wear business suits on the job, or for social occasions (such as weddings, funerals, etc.) as a sign of respect. The idea of the suit comes from the Renaissance period, back when men started using scarves and jackets to appear in public. The idea was to excuse one's self (or one's body) from public view, so as to focus attention on the things that matter most -- such as business, conversation, manners, courtesy, etc. The tradition carries on today in what we know as "the corporate world" where certain standards of decorum are expected and maintained. This is done for the benefit of clients and customers, as a sign of respect and courtesy. Likewise, it stands to reason that this same manner should spill over into the Church -- particularly how one dresses for mass? If ever there was a time to excuse one's self (or body) from attention, so that it may be more appropriately directed where it matters (namely the Eucharist), it is during mass. Consequently, the tradition of wearing a suit, or at least a long-sleeve shirt with a tie, became the norm in all churches (Catholic and Protestant) in the western world. The custom only fell by the wayside recently (in the 1970s) as a sign of cultural disintegration in our society. Most people don't even know why the custom exists anymore, and a good number of them no longer practice it, showing up to mass in bluejeans, shorts, T-shirts and ball caps. Speaking of hats, since the time of the apostles, it has long been the Christian custom for men to remove their hats during mass. The directive to do so can be found in the Bible (1st Corinthians 11), and while it is no longer required in canon law, any man who approaches the Eucharist with his head covered would be seen as showing a tremendous amount of disrespect. Though most people may not know the reason why anymore, this tradition is still ingrained in the American psyche. Most men still remove their ball caps upon entering a home, or during the singing of the national anthem. If such respect is shown among men, then it is certainly owed to God as well.

The same idea of excusing one's self (or body) applies to women as well. However, it should be understood that in spite of the feminist propaganda we so commonly hear, female dress codes have always been far more lax in Christian churches than male dress codes. Women have always been free to explore a little fashion expression, varying between skirts to dresses, long-sleeve and middle-length sleeve, collar or no collar, along with an endless array of scarves, lace, patterns and jewelry. As a general rule, a dress or skirt is acceptable so long as it goes down below the knee while both standing and sitting. The neckline on a dress or blouse is almost always acceptable so long is it does not reveal the shoulder, bust or cleavage. The sleeves are acceptable so long as they do not reveal the shoulder or axillary area beneath the arm -- elbow length or longer is recommended. Basically common sense in modesty should prevail in all areas of dress, and for Catholic women especially, the model set by Our Lady (The Blessed Virgin Mary) should come to mind. We should remember that Our Lord always enjoyed the presence of women during his earthly ministry, and their beauty is something he calls us all to admire with the highest respect. So it is only natural that when a woman excuses her self (or body), she would do so in a way that complements her feminine appeal and dignity. In other words, she excuses herself with style and grace.

Beyond that, there is but one more element of dress that speaks volumes of our Catholic identity -- the mantilla...

The mantilla comes to Catholicism directly from our Jewish roots in apostolic times (1st Corinthians 11). In fact, Orthodox Jewish women continue with this same custom today. I have written extensively about the mantilla in a previous post (read here), but suffice it to say that while it is no longer required in the Code of Canon Law, it is nevertheless a Catholic tradition that has never been abrogated. In fact, Catholic women all around the world continue to practice it. Only in the United States, Canada and Australia has the custom been dropped, and mainly because of feminist propaganda suggesting that the practice of female head covering was a means of male domination. We have to understand that in the industrialized West, Catholic women are under tremendous peer pressure to not cover their heads during worship. So few women do it anymore, that the lack of practice actually does more to discourage the practice than the ridiculous propaganda against it. Some women may fear what others may think if they should wear a mantilla. It's sort of a fashion phobia, wherein they think "nobody else is wearing one, so I'll look out of place if I do." While some women fear a feminist lashing if they practice good Catholic modesty, afraid they may be accused of "submitting" to male dominance. Such fears are unwarranted. Most hard-core feminists left the Church long ago, and as for the fashion phobia, the vast majority of women in Church would probably join in the practice if just a few brave women stood up to the plate.

According to Catholic Christian tradition (found in 1st Corinthians 11) the head covering requirement falls equally upon both men and women. According to the custom, men are to take their hats off during religious ceremonies, while women are to put a covering on. This is for two reasons. The first is just like the manner of dress described above -- which is to excuse one's self. Saint Paul points out to us that a woman's glory is the beauty of mankind, and that is manifested in her hair. Women go to great lengths to make their hair beautiful, regardless of the style or trend, and that's a good thing. But during the mass, the focus is to always be on the Eucharist, and as a sign of modesty and respect, the woman excuses her beautiful hair (by covering it) to call more attention to the greater beauty of God's presence in the Eucharist.

Secondly, Saint Paul makes the unusual command of telling the men to uncover their heads, which actually contradicts traditional Jewish custom. Now you have to understand, Paul's instruction to do this contradicts a thousand years of Jewish tradition. It was a radical departure from the norm. This was not to exult men, but rather humiliate them. Paul is putting them in their place. You see, Jews put such a high reverence on the holy presence of God, that it was considered a frightfully embarrassing thing for anyone to be found in his presence uncovered. But Paul is telling the men to humiliate themselves by doing just that. He's telling them that they represent the image of Christ in the New Covenant, and since Christ exposed himself on the cross, and in the Eucharist, men too must expose their heads both as a symbol of humility as well as authority (Christ's authority that is, not their own)...

1st Corinthians 11:3-16
Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved. If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head. In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.

He does this to draw attention to a theological truth. In marriage, the husband represents Christ, and the wife represents the Church. The glory of Christ is to be exposed, just as he was exposed on the cross, and is daily exposed in the Eucharist. (Certainly a humiliating thing for God.) So likewise the man's head should be exposed in the Church. But this exposure is also a sign of authority (Christ's authority) in the sense that God intended in the order of nature for the woman to complement the man, not vice versa, and so for the sake of the angels (who worship God with us, and are watching us) we must demonstrate that all things have been put back into order through the authority of Christ. This is why men must have their heads exposed - for a sign of Christ's humility and authority. While the women must have their heads covered - for a sign of the Church's modesty and purity.

The Church is made pure by the glory of Christ, and that which is pure should be veiled. So the purified Church, being the veiled bride of Christ, is illustrated in the woman's head covering. It was typical of Saint Paul to take an ordinary custom like this and turn it into a big theological illustration. But it's a teaching illustration that is just as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago.

All of this may seem overwhelming for most Catholics today. Contemporary pop culture has done so much to erode our religious traditions. But I've been wanting to write about this for a while, and so here it is, to do with as you will. I hope that it's been of service to at least some of you. God bless.

Appealing To Pop Culture Just Drives Young Catholics Away From Church

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: A few weeks ago, a high profile Evangelical returned to the Church of his youth -- The Catholic Church. His name is Francis Beckwith, and he served as president of the 'Evangelical Theological Society,' an association of 4,300 Evangelical Protestant theologians. In an interview with Tim Drake of the 'National Catholic Register,' Beckwith provides some insight as to what Catholic parishes should NOT do, in order to reach out to young people...
(NCR): Looking back, and knowing what I know now, I believe that the Church’s weakness was presenting the renewal movements as something new and not part of the Church’s theological traditions.

For someone like me, who was interested in both the spiritual and intellectual grounding of the Christian faith, I didn’t need the “folk Mass” with cute nuns and hip priests playing “Kumbaya” with guitars, tambourines and harmonicas. And it was all badly done.

After all, we listened to the Byrds, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, and we knew the Church just couldn’t compete with them.

But that’s what the Church offered to the young people of my day: lousy pop music and a gutted Mass. If they were trying to make Catholicism unattractive to young and inquisitive Catholics, they were succeeding.

What I needed, and what many of us desired, were intelligent and winsome ambassadors for Christ who knew the intellectual basis for the Catholic faith, respected and understood the solemnity and theological truths behind the liturgy, and could explain the renewal movements in light of these....

Romanitas?

Defined by Malachi Martin in his seminal book "The Jesuits," Romanitas is the style of the political culture of give and take found in the Roman Curia....
(BBC NEWS): Pope Benedict XVI has reversed a controversial decision he took a year ago to downgrade the Vatican department which deals with the Islamic world.

The Council for Interreligious Dialogue will be restored to its former position as a department in its own right.

It is not clear if the department's former head, British archbishop Michael Fitzgerald, will also be reinstated...

...In a rare about face, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone told the Italian newspaper, La Stampa, that the Council for Interreligious Dialogue would again become "a dicastery in its own right".

In March 2006, the Pope had downgraded the office by merging it with the Pontifical Council for Culture.

"The change highlights the importance of inter-religious dialogue," Cardinal Bertone said....

August 2004 (CatholicNews): Reflecting the Vatican view that Europe must fight to retain its Christian identity, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger has said that bringing Turkey into the European Union would put European culture at risk.

"Europe is a cultural and not a geographical continent," he said.

"Turkey always represented another continent throughout history, in permanent contrast with Europe," so to equate the two continents "would be a mistake," he told the magazine of the French newspaper Le Figaro in an interview published last week.

Rome, May. 30, 2007 (CWNews.com) - The Vatican's Secretary of State has signaled that the Holy See will support Turkey's bid for membership in the European Union.

Speaking to the Italian daily La Stampa, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone said that "Turkey has come a long way" toward democracy and respect for human rights. The European community can accept the membership of an overwhelming Islamic society, he said, as long as "fundamental rules of cohabitation" are firmly in place...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: So what changed? Why the Vatican reversal on all these issues dealing with Islam? The answer can be found here...

(CWNNews.com): ...Patriarch Bartholomew told a group of visiting German lawmakers that he had asked the Turkish government to overturn an existing rule that bars a non-Turk from being elected Patriarch of Constantinople. The Orthodox prelate suggested that Turkey adopt the policies of Egypt and Syria, which grant automatic citizenship to the patriarchs of Alexandria and Antioch. The Turkish government has not yet replied to his request, Bartholomew said.

Patriarch Bartholomew has been demanding greater respect for religious freedom in Turkey, and critics of the Turkish bid for EU membership have pointed to the Patriarch's complaints that Christians do not receive equal treatment under Turkish law...

...the Holy See would "look favorably" on Turkey's membership drive as long as the Ankara government respected the principles of religious freedom and equal justice under law. [Emphasis Added]

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: What we have here is the classic case of the "carrot and the stick." By its willingness to back Turkey's admission into the EU, the Holy See effectively acknowledges that Europe's Christian identity is essentially lost, and secular relativism has failed, creating a new Islamic identity for Europe. However, the last statement in the story is revealing. While the Vatican admits defeat on the Christian identity of Europe, it simultaneously acknowledges that it's support of Turkey's admission to the EU is 100% dependent on Turkey's commitment to religious freedom and equal justice (for Christians) under the law. This puts the Turkish government in an awkward position, effectively forcing them to grant Patriarch Bartholomew's requests, or else risk loosing Vatican support for something Turkey so desperately wants and needs. The "carrot and the stick" have been extended, the Christian request for equal rights has been made, and now the ball is squarely in Ankara's court. Either they grant Patriarch Bartholomew's request and gain Vatican support, or deny it and loose their biggest chance of getting what they want. So goes the Vatican's political game of Romanitas.

Relations with the Eastern Orthodox Churches have become of central importance to the Vatican since the Pope's November 2006 trip to Turkey, in which the Pope and Patriarch signed a Catholic-Orthodox Joint Declaration committing the two ecclesiastical bodies to the pursuit of full reunification, and effectively ending the 1,000 year schism between Eastern and Western Christianity. Clearly the Holy See views this with stronger gravity than the lost Christian identity of Europe, and is willing to use EU admission as a bargaining chip if it means bringing freedom to millions of Christians persecuted in Islamic nations. What we see here is a half-decade of careful calculation and precision strategy on the part of the Vatican, as the pope attempts to crack open the iron fist of Islamic rule. If successful, the office of Ecumenical Patriarch will effectively be given the freedom needed to play a much bigger role in the reunification of Catholic-Orthodox Christianity. These actions indicate that Pope Benedict XVI is trying to untie the hands of a much needed ally, so that the Church of the 21st Century can put the 1,000 year schism behind it, and go about the business of renewed worldwide evangelism.

Vatican Reverses Stance On Turkey - Signals Loss Of EU To Islam

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: In a major reversal of policy, the Vatican has announced that it will support Turkey's bid for membership into the European Union (EU). This signals a major shift in the Holy See's perspective on the European continent, and a subtle admission that Europe has completely lost it's Judeo-Christian identity. In essence, the Vatican is giving a "green light" for Islamic nations to enter the EU, because much of the EU is already Muslim. As "The Catholic Knight" pointed out in previous stories on the topic, the creation of a secular religious vacuum (through relativism) on the European continent has resulted in a surge of conversions to Islam by European youths. That coupled with massive immigration of Muslims to western European countries, has given the continent a startling Islamic image. Today's announcement by the Holy See indicates that the battle is over, or the "beginning of the end," depending on how you look at at. Secular Relativism is a miserable failure in the European experiment. The result has merely been a shift from one religion to another - from Christianity to Islam. Now that Europe has completely lost its Christian identity, and is currently adopting an Islamic one, resistance to Muslim nations entering the EU has become unnecessary...

High Demand For Tridentine Mass Reported

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: In spite of USA Today's recent report that there is virtually no interest in the Classical Latin (Tridentine) Mass, Shawn Tribe over at the 'New Liturgical Movement' reports an entirely different story...
(NLM): Some problems are good problems. I saw a statement by Fr. Calvin Goodwin of the FSSP who is coordinating training in the classical Roman liturgy with Una Voce, who spoke back in March about the popularity of that initiative:

"It appears that we may have slightly underestimated the degree of interest that there would be in this project of training priests in the traditional Mass... Enquiries and reservations have been coming our way fast and furious, to the degree that something like half the places available (for our crash course class in June) have been claimed - just in the last three days. They're coming from all over: Denver, Arlington, NYC, Tennessee, New Jersey, etc." (March 2007)

I asked Father for an update on that initiative:

"The programme was almost sold out within days of the initial announcements and we have a waiting list for another week sometime later this year..."

Encouraging and beautiful news, particularly when you consider there hasn't been a major media push about this.

How To Stop The 'North American Union' (NAU)

'The Catholic Knight' recommends that all Americans who cherish their Constitutional form of government contact their elected representatives with the demand that hearings (open to the public) be held immediately on the constitutionality of the North American Union (NAU), and that no further government or private action be taken to implement the NAU until such hearings have been properly held. I've provided an easy way to do that below. Just enter your zipcode and click "Go."

Tancredo Slams GOP Over "Amnesty" Immigration Bill

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Presidential hopeful Tom Tancredo (campaign website here) has the following to say to his fellow GOP lawmakers about the Amnesty Immigration Bill floating through Congress right now...

'Motu Proprio' Update

For decades, the pre-Vatican II Tridentine Mass could only be celebrated by a priest with permission from his bishop.

But a Vatican official, Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos, confirmed earlier this month that Pope Benedict XVI would soon relax the restrictions on celebrating the Tridentine Mass because of a "new and renewed interest" in the celebration — especially among younger Catholics.

That ruling would make access universal: Any priest can choose to celebrate it.

Traditional Catholics hungry for the age-old and familiar Latin Mass of their youth, hope this means the elaborate rite will be restored and inspire new generations of Catholics with a liturgy four centuries old and laden with formal beauty.

But experts aren't so sure this will inspire more Mass attendance...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: And yet here we have more proof that we're surrounded by idiots. Since when did Pope Benedict XVI ever indicate that he intended to restore the Classical Latin Mass for the sake of "increasing mass attendance?" He didn't. He never even suggested it, nor have any of his aids, nor anyone who has knowledge of the subject. The above story just goes to show how "out of touch" the mainstream media is with the real world. It would seem they literally "make it up" as they go along. This pope has said nothing to indicate that he is trying to increase mass attendance, and he has certainly never linked the Classical Latin Mass to that goal, and yet this reporter for 'USA Today' writes as if that's the only reason why he wants to liberalize its use.

Allow me to set the record straight about the pope's forthcoming 'motu proprio' liberalizing the celebration of the Classical Latin (Tridentine) mass. The pope is not doing this to increase mass attendance. That's not his goal here because he's never indicated that "increasing mass attendance" was ever his goal about anything at all. If anything, Pope Benedict has said things quite to the opposite. Shortly after being elected, he told us that we should get used to the idea of a "smaller Church," and that we should be willing to accept that for the purpose of making necessary reforms to safeguard the doctrinal integrity of the Church. I believe the pope's forthcoming 'motu proprio' is an example of that. It does nothing to "increase mass attendance," nor is it designed to. The purpose of the 'motu prioprio,' in my opinion, is to re-inject the Church with the treasury of tradition much needed for the great liturgical reform of the New VERNACULAR mass. The New Vernacular mass is about to get an overhaul, which in the end, will leave it looking a lot more similar to the Old Latin mass, minus most of the Latin of course. To bring this about smoothly, the Classical Latin mass must be restored to it's rightful place alongside the New Vernacular mass as equals, so as to reintroduce younger Catholics to their Latin foundation, and start getting the local churches to think about Tradition again. That is "phase one", if you will. "Phase two" will be the reorganization and overhaul of the New Vernacular mass, after the Classical Latin mass becomes familiar to enough Catholics.

None of this is designed to "inspire greater mass attendance." The purpose of this liturgical renewal is to improve the QUALITY of Catholic worship, not the QUANTITY of those who attend.

Anti-Catholicism Promoted By HBO

HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” ran a show on May 18—repeated throughout this week—that began with an attack on the late Rev. Jerry Falwell and then devolved into an assault on Catholicism:
“And it’s easy to start a religion! Watch, I'll do it for you: I had a vision last night! A vision! The Blessed Virgin Mary came to me—I don’t know how she got past the guards—and she told me it’s high time to take the high ground from the Seventh Day Adventists and give it to the 24-hour party people. And what happens in the confessional stays in the confessional. Gay men, don’t say you’re life partners, say you’re a nunnery of two. ‘We weren’t having sex, officer, I was performing a very private Mass, here in my car. I was letting my rod and staff comfort him. Take this and eat of it, for this is my roommate Barry. And for all those who believe there is a special place for you in Kevin.”

Feel free to contact HBO here, (I did), and let them know what you think.

Just Two Contenders

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Of all the potential Republican candidates for President in 2008, "The Catholic Knight" can only find two worthy of his vote. Unfortunately, I cannot support the Republican front runner, Mit Romney, because of inconsistencies in his political background (flip-flopping) and a weak stand on the abortion issue while he was governor of Massachusetts. I cannot support Rudolph Giuliani or John McCain for similar reasons. In the absence of a better selection, I've narrowed it down to two contenders. There is always a chance of a 'dark horse' candidate riding in this summer (like Fred Thompson or Newt Gingrich), but assuming that doesn't happen, this is what's left. I suppose if neither of the below contenders gets the nomination, (unless there's a 'dark horse' coming), I'll probably vote third-party for the Constitutionalist alternative. I submit the following contenders for your prayers and consideration...

California Democrats Vote to Teach Homosexuality in Public Schools

A controversial bill that bans bias against homosexuals, transgenders, and bisexuals in public schools was passed on Thursday by the California Senate, unleashing a wave of concern through those opposed to normalizing homosexuality.

SB 777 went through by a 23-13 vote, and would prohibit all classes, textbooks, and teachers from any instruction that "reflects or promotes bias against" those perceived with gender issues. All instructional materials and school activities would then have to positively portray all of these sexually alternative lifestyles, something many refuse to support.

Children starting from kindergarten would learn about the practices, as a result, and would be forced to accept them as socially acceptable, pro-family conservatives argue....

GOP Straw Poll

Pope Vows To Fight Relativism

Vatican City (AsiaNews) – In modern society, where the tide of relativism and nihilism is rising, the Church cannot renege on announcing the Gospel, neither can it “reduce or weaken its missionary vocation” or above all give up on formation especially of the young, “perhaps the most difficult task, but certainly its most important”. At the same time, the Church cannot falter in standing up for “the good of mankind”, such as safeguarding the family –the Church appreciates and encourages the State to work in its favour – and the “daily service to the many poor, old and new, visible and invisible”. The Churches actions in favour of mankind, from both the spiritual and material point of view, were at the heart of Benedict XVI’s speech to the Italian bishops, who were gathered today in the Vatican for their 57th general assembly...

$$$ Will Drive USA Into 'North American Union" - Like It Or Not!

The People's Republic of China, long lauded by America's enemies as the world's next economic power, will be the country that will force the creation of the `North American Union' (NAU).

Kofi Annan's former pointman, Canadian Maurice Strong, has been boasting from Chinese soil that China soon would be replacing America as economic king, using the jingo that's the official language at Turtle Bay.

The billions of dollars China has invested in the flagging American economy will be worthless. They will have to negotiate the exchange rate to the new amero. This will then force the creation of the North American Union.

The cloak of the NAU, fashioned in secrecy, will be thrown over an unsuspecting public, erasing the borders of three countries. Mexico, which already has legions of its citizens living and working inside America, is, in effect already inside the NAU. Their governments will inform the American and Canadian people that there is no option but the bread line.

Unfortunately, the plan, which has been in place for some time, now, has been all but ignored by the mainstream media.

One of the signs that the NAU is on its way is the collapse of the American greenback dollar paving the way for the debut of the 'amero'.

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: The currency illustrated above is a joke, but this topic isn't. Like it or not, this is GOING to happen. The United States of America is slated to disappear as a sovereign nation within a matter of years. It's been planned out for decades, and the final pieces are about to be put into place. We can protest it all we like, but at best, the most we could accomplish would be to delay the inevitable. Once the American dollar tanks, the introduction of the "Amero" along with the "North American Union" (NAU) will economically force Americans, Mexicans and Canadians to surrender their sovereignty. Money will drive the collapse of the USA, and its coming very VERY soon. Everything from our national debt, to our welfare state, to our liberal social practices has brought this upon us. The United States of America has sown to the wind. Now we must prepare to reap the tornado! Perhaps within a decade, our country as we've always know it, will exist no more. What will remain in its place will be a provincial shell, subjected to the authority of a continental super-government.

'North American Union' Proposal Goes to Congress

WASHINGTON – A powerful think tank chaired by former Sen. The final report, published in English, Spanish and French, is scheduled for submission to all three governments by Sept. 30, according to the Center for Strategic & International Studies.

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: You know, the overwhelming vast majority of Americans don't want this. The overwhelming vast majority of Mexicans and Canadians don't want this either. But like NAFTA, it is going to happen. Why? Because when it comes to the globalist agenda, the people have no control of their governments anymore. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, because there is no conspiracy here. The masonic plans of the 'New World Order' are laid plain and bare for all the world to see. There is nothing hidden here. There are no dark and smoke-filled rooms. There are no secret organizations with shadowy figures. The globalist masons have been plainly announcing their intentions for nearly a century now. From the back of every American dollar bill "Novus Ordo Seclorum" ("A New Order for the Ages") to the creation of the EU, to the congressional passage of NAFTA and GATT, and now this. They even have their own government website. We, the American people, can protest all we like. We can write our congressmen and the President, expressing our dissent, but none of it will matter. If we vote for Democrats, we'll get a globalist agenda coupled with environmentalism and homosexuality. If we vote for Republicans, we'll get a globalist agenda coupled with a foreign wars and outsourcing of jobs. Either way we get globalists, and America gets shafted. Think of today's politicians as all part of the same globalist body. The Republicans represent the "right arm" of the globalist agenda, while the Democrats represent the "left arm" of the same globalist agenda. Like I said, there is no conspiracy here. It's all made public for anyone to see. Granted, the mainstream media doesn't cover it much, but since when has the mainstream media had a clue about anything?

America Is Converting To Islam

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: So you thought it could never happen here? Well, it is happening, and at an alarming rate. Watch these videos, and I'll explain why it's happening below...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Okay, so you think this is an anomaly - a strange fluke of nature that is small and isolated - not a real threat to America or Americans. Think again! This is big - very BIG! Conservative estimates put American conversions to Islam at about 20,000 per year, and that rate is growing every year. It's doubled in just the last decade. What will it be in another decade? 40,000 per year, 50,000 per year, or higher? Would it surprise you that 'The Catholic Knight' has been warning his friends and neighbors about this as early as 1998? That's right. I've been warning my fellow Christians since the end of the last century (three years before 9/11) that Islam threatens to play a huge role in America's future, as our children and grandchildren will be under intense social pressure to convert to this religion. What we are seeing now are the early preliminary stages of this coming to pass.

In the late 1990s, Iran sponsored a group of 10,000 Muslim missionaries to make their way into the United States for the sole purpose of converting Americans to Islam. Most of those missionaries are here now, and they've been working for some time. Their goal is to eventually make North America a Muslim continent, and they are working intensely in the United States. (Mexico was also targeted for Islamic missionary work, and that country is seeing a rise in Muslim conversions as well.) The goal of these missionaries is not immediate. The Muslim world has not succumbed to the western notion of instant gratification. They plan in terms of decades not years. Like we're now starting to see in western Europe, Islamic converts will eventually reach a "critical mass," in which their numbers will swell exponentially, beyond what any of us dreamed possible. Within a generation or two, our children and grandchildren will be under unbelievable social pressure to convert to Islam -- much more than you or I can possibly imagine today.

So you ask, why or how, could this happen? 'The Catholic Knight' does have the answer, and he's been preaching it for nearly a decade now. The answer is SECULARISM! The western world, (which includes Europe and North America) has bought into the idea of a secular culture -- one in which religion (namely Christianity) is pushed into the four walls of church buildings, and the rest of society operates virtually free of all religious influence. But what secularists don't understand is the simple law that "Nature Abhors A Vacuum." As in the physical world, so it is also true in cultures and societies. All vacuums must be filled. Secularism seeks to create a religious vacuum in our civilization, and in doing so (pushing out the old religion), it invites it to be filled again (by a new religion). What's worse is that Christians, by in large, have actually (and perhaps unwittingly) cooperated with this secularization process.

While governments pushed our religious symbols out of the public view, church leaders essentially retreated by permissively allowing the secularization of themselves and their congregations. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Catholic Church! For years Catholic leaders, and their congregations, turned away from the centuries-old customs that stood as a bulwark against the tide of Islam.

We might expect to see this sort of thing in liberal Protestant churches, but sadly, the same is true in many of America's Catholic Churches. Take a close look at the culture of 1950s Catholicism and compare it with today's Catholic culture. Do you see any differences? If I have to point them out to you, then you really don't know much about Catholicism at all. I think we can define these differences in one word -- vacuum! Today's Catholicism is very much like a vacuum compared to the Catholic culture of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. As I said, nature abhors a vacuum, and a vacuum currently exists in Catholic churches all across America today. Some have tried to fill this vacuum with strange and bizarre innovations to the liturgy and private devotions. Many of these innovations (such as liturgical dance and prayer labyrinths) are anything but Catholic, but rather the modern inventions of New Age occultists.

In addition to all of this, there exists another problem that's been around for a long time. We have the division of Christian denominations and sects. After some time of reflection, I've come to the conclusion that this is mainly a Protestant problem, with over 90% of it existing in their camp entirely. There is only one Roman Catholic Church. Then there are small groups of "catholic" style Christians who exist in other denominations. But the overwhelming vast majority of sectarianism is a Protestant thing, with literally thousands of denominations and affiliations, each claiming to have its own unique interpretation of what the Bible says, and what it means.

These two problems combined together; the secularization of our culture, and Protestant sectarianism, have over the years created a society ripe for Islamic missionary work. The young people of today, and many more of the future, look to Christianity as an impotent and divided religion -- unable to help itself, let alone help those struggling to find their way in the modern world. The trend of Americans (along with Mexicans and Canadians) converting to Islam will continue at an alarming rate, until Christians (particularly Catholic Christians) do something to stop it.

The only group of Christians most poised to stop the coming massive exodus to Islam is the US Catholic Church, and sadly both the leadership and the laity of the Church are ill prepared for this task. The reason why the US Catholic Church is most suitable is because even though Catholics are a minority in the USA, the US Catholic Church is by far the nation's largest unified denomination. The majority of other Christians in the USA are divided among hundreds (if not thousands) of denominations and affiliations unable to find unity with each other. Because of this, they have much more work ahead of them than we (Catholics) do.

The recipe for stopping this Islamic catastrophe is simple and any Catholic can do it. In fact, even a Protestant can do it (or something very similar to this) without having to compromise his Protestant beliefs.

STRATEGY FOR COMBATING ISLAMIC MISSIONARIES IN AMERICA...
  1. Teach your children that all things Catholic flow from our personal and communal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus is the center of everything Catholic, and if Jesus isn't the center of something -- it's not Catholic. (This will help children understand the Christ-centered nature of things like the mass and the rosary, as well as help to debunk some of the New Age innovations now entering the Church.)
  2. Look back to the culture and traditions of our Catholic ancestors, and imitate them. Teach your children to imitate them as well. You'll find that many of these so-called "old fashioned" rituals are actually the product of many centuries of wisdom and intelligence. They are deeply spiritual, and Christ-centered, in ways we may not have realized before.
  3. Tell others about how Christ-centered your Catholic faith is, and how Jesus is the center of everything Catholic. Tell this to your friends and extended Catholic family. Tell this to your Protestant friends too. Don't be afraid to tell anybody.
  4. Finally, reject the current culture of decadence and sin. You know what's right and wrong. I don't need to tell you. So if there's something in our culture that is tempting you (or your family) to sin, then reject it! Turn that television off for a while. Control what your kids are watching by keeping it limited to DVDs and Videos you know are content safe. Spend some family time around the radio, listening to good family programming, instead of watching the television. Better yet, PRAY TOGETHER, instead of relying on entertainment all of the time. Help your kids through one decade of the rosary every day. Read Bible stories to them (use children's' Bibles if you have to). Keep a short and easy form of the Catechism in your home, and refer to it with your family every day.
Now you may be asking how this is going to stop Islamic missionary work in the United States. The answer is that it won't. Muslims will continue to convert Americans with alarming success regardless, because our culture has already gone so far down into the secular vacuum. However, it will slow their progress, and may ultimately frustrate their efforts in the end, especially if everyone starts doing this. Why? The number one reason why Americans convert to Islam is because they say the religion makes them "feel closer to God." If we Catholics, and other Christians, make sure our religion is helping our kids not only "feel closer to God," but actually "be closer to God," than they'll be much less susceptible to Muslim missionaries, and much less likely to convert to Islam.

"The Catholic Knight" has a saying he uses quite frequently in just about every aspect of his life. It goes like this. "When all else fails -- Go with what you know." We Catholic Americans need to get back to this. By in large, we've abandoned the historic cultural traditions of Catholicism, leaving behind what has worked well for Catholics in centuries past. Maybe our Catholic grandmothers weren't so "fuddy duddy" after all. Maybe, just maybe, they were on to something.

America's Caesar!

(WorldNetDaily.com) President Bush has signed directive granting extraordinary powers to the office of the president in the event of a declared national emergency, apparently without congressional approval or oversight.

The "National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive" was signed May 9, notes Jerome R. Corsi in a WND column.

It was issued with the dual designation of NSPD-51, as a National Security Presidential Directive, and HSPD-20, as a Homeland Security Presidential Directive.

The directive establishes under the office of the president a new national continuity coordinator whose job is to make plans for "National Essential Functions" of all federal, state, local, territorial and tribal governments, as well as private sector organizations to continue functioning under the president's directives in the event of a national emergency...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Webster's Dictionary defines "Empire" as: "a major political unit having a territory of great extent or a number of territories or peoples under a single sovereign authority." It's official now, the United States of America has become an "empire," according to Webster's definition anyway. All the necessary pieces are in place. Now all we need is some kind of "national emergency" to set it into motion.

US Catholic Bishops Respond To Attack By 18 Congressional Democrats

Response to 18 Democrats
Sister Mary Ann Walsh, RSM
Director of Media Relations
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

In an unfortunate May 10 statement, 18 of the 88 Catholic Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives criticized Pope Benedict XVI’s remarks concerning Mexican lawmakers legalizing abortion. The Representatives’ statement misrepresents the Holy Father’s remarks and implies that the Church does not have a right to voice its teaching in the public square.

The Holy See has made clear that neither the Mexican bishops nor the Holy Father have excommunicated any legislator. Rather, the Holy See reiterated longstanding Church teaching that anyone who freely and knowingly commits a serious wrong, that is, a mortal sin, should not approach the Eucharist until going to confession.

“The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision of society.” (United States Catechism for Adults, p. 442) Consequently, every Catholic is obliged to respect human life, from conception until natural death.

To suggest that the Church should not clearly voice its teaching and apply it in a pluralistic society is to attack freedom of speech and freedom of religion. The Catholic Church always will and must speak out against the destruction of innocent unborn children. The right to do so is guaranteed by the Constitution that all legislators are elected to uphold. Speaking and acting against abortion is not a matter of partisan politics. It is a matter of life and death.

The bishops urge all Catholics, especially those who hold positions of public responsibility, to educate themselves about the teaching of the Church, and to seek pastoral advice so that they can make informed decisions with consistency and integrity.

President Bush Will DESTROY The Republican Party

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: It saddens me to write this, because I had once been a supporter of President Bush, especially after the events of 9/11/2001. I still believe he was better than the insanity proposed by the Democratic Party, in the form of Al Gore and John Kerry. However, as his administration wears on into its second term, it becomes painfully clear that President Bush is nothing more than a Neoconservative Globalist! His recent "deal" with Senate Democrats demonstrates this beyond the shadow of a doubt. His intentions are clear. The President of the United States seeks to create a pan continental super-state called the "North American Union" or (NAU). It's three major member states being Canada, America and Mexico. Such a massive union will surely attract smaller states to join in, such as those of Central America, Greenland and the Caribbean Islands. All of this is part of the greater globalist plan for world government, in which each hemisphere must first be put into order.

When President George W. Bush was first elected, I remember hearing the rumors about his ties with globalists, and a return to the 'New World Order" agenda of his father - former President George H. Bush. I dismissed them. I was wrong.

Now President Bush has cut a deal with Senate Democrats to pass a "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" bill that will grant amnesty to some 20 million illegal aliens in the United States. This will completely undercut efforts to secure our porous southern boarder, and set on the path to citizenship those who have no intention of learning English or assimilating into American culture.

Why? Because President Bush is a globalist, and to globalists, the United States of America is merely a tool through which to achieve a much greater goal. That goal being the subjugation of nations and continents under "a new order of the ages" (Novus Ordo Seclorum). To them, this new order is benign, peaceful and benevolent to the economic pursuits of man. But to those of us who understand the condition of human nature all to well, the concept of "putting all your eggs into one basket" like this is terrifying.

I would not be the least bit surprised of this "deal" Bush struck with Democrats will be the undoing of the GOP -- splitting it right down the middle, just in time for the 2008 election. Thanks for nothing! Mr. President.

A Conversion Story

EXCERPTS...
A conversion story, like any story, is something of a reconstruction, limited by the clues available to one presently and by the gulf of time. Just as one cannot step into the same river twice, neither can one see with the same eyes one had at some previous point in life. What follows then is my reconstruction of the path by which I have become a traditional Roman Catholic. When I look back now, even with the illumination of hindsight, I cannot apprehend in one glance -- or even in many glances -- the whole of it. I see in the distance where the trail begins and bits of sunlit footpath between here and there, but much of it remains in obscurity. These are the limitations of human memory and understanding. Nevertheless, I find myself here now -- and for poignant reasons, which I will try to explain.

Leaving Protestantism
It seems logical that any convert might have two internal forces at work: the movement away from one thing and the movement toward something else. This was certainly the case for me in 1989 when I converted to the Catholic Church. For two years prior I had been moving toward Catholicism, and for several years before that I had been moving away from Protestantism. To understand more precisely the nature of this movement away, I must make clear what it was not: It was not a movement away from belief....

Trying to Find Catholicism
It is beauty that lured me at last into the Catholic Church. I am artistic by nature (poet, writer, musician), so I am particularly susceptible to beauty. Often this has been to my detriment. I have sought beauty in many of its natural forms -- in the drama and variety of earthen landscapes, in art and architecture, in music, in the bond of friendship, in the love of a woman and the loveliness of her form, even (I am amused to say) in some brilliant corner of myself. In myself I could not find it; in romantic love, it is pressed; in friendship, it is by necessity limited and often ends up fading; in music, at least in popular music, it disorients; in art, it is a rabbit hole; in landscapes, it is tantalizingly inaccessible. In Catholicism, too, I would see beauty. And this was cause for both enchantment and anxiety. Would I find behind her doors the answer to all my longings, or would the Church end up merely another of beauty's tricks?...

Beauty's Trick
What I have described about Catholicism is true. Every bit of it truly exists. But it is a trick of beauty to be elusive, and when I actually came to embrace the Bride of Christ, I had trouble finding her. The Church I had read about, thought about, talked about, dreamed about for two years was not the one I found when I entered the doors. Imagine my surprise. I knew, for instance, the Catholic teaching on the Eucharist -- it had played a big part in my conversion -- but the liturgy I encountered seemed to downplay its significance. The priest, facing the people and speaking in the vernacular, often seemed compelled to impart his particular personality on the event -- nothing blatant usually, just the nuance of facial expressions, cadence, vocal inflection, gestures. I found myself naturally focusing on the individuality of that person, the priest, rather than on Christ, who was in reality the Victim being offered to His Father. Furthermore, there was a strong feeling of informality about what was going on, perhaps best encapsulated by the inevitable trooping up of laity, often strangely dressed, to help the priest distribute the Sacrament. This misery was topped off by the faithful, myself included, receiving our Lord in the palms of our hands, then popping Him into our mouths like a snack cracker.

I did not know, at the time, what this incomprehensible moment ought to look like, but I did know that the casual air with which we all received the Body of Christ was something of a disappointment. It took me right out of the hierarchical realm of majesty that I had long anticipated and left me once again focusing on my fellow man. Although I had become a Catholic, I found myself suffering a mysterious and demoralizing hangover from Protestant days: Yes, the Catholic Church taught that the Host was truly the Body and Blood of our Lord, but even to my freshly converted eyes, nothing about the way the Sacrament was handled seemed to align with that teaching....

Waking Up
I will forever be grateful to the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem, a Latin Mass order who were granted the indult by then-Bishop Raymond Burke of the Diocese of La Crosse, Wisc. I had just moved my family to nearby Winona, Minn., accepting a teaching post there. With me, to my first traditional Mass, I took my 11-year-old daughter, Kate. We awoke together as if from a dream. There, before our eyes, in the movements and postures of the priest and his assistants, in the ancient sounds of the Latin words and in the appeal of that one voice, a single ecclesiastical tongue, in the meaning of those prayers, the extensive adoration of the three Persons of the Trinity, in the summoning of many saints and martyrs by name, in the hailing of our Lady, in the deeply reverent Consecration, the priest with his back to us, his head lifted to the crucifix in front of him, the breaking of our Lord in the perfect sacrifice He offers in love to the Father, in virtually every nuance of this Mass was the Church I had gone looking for so many years ago. At last there was alignment: between the idea of Catholicism and its practice, between the Church I thought I was converting to and the one that now stood before me, between the virtues of hope and faith. The long haze of disillusionment cleared, and I knew for certain that the Church had indeed survived, a tough but delicate lily pushing her way impossibly through this present layer of ice and snow.

If all traditional Catholicism had to offer was the Tridentine Mass, it would be enough, because the Mass, by its very nature, is catechetical. The liturgy teaches even as it orients; the emphasis is always vertical; the treasures of the Church are constantly reiterated in plain view of the faithful. The Mass, as the grounding point of contact among the members of the Church, contains all the marks of that Church: it is catholic in the sense that it is universal (the same everywhere, made even more so by the exclusive use of Latin); it is holy in the sense that it directs our attention perpetually to all that is above us in the heavenly hierarchy; it is apostolic in the way that it came into being, beginning with the canon -- the core words instituted by our Lord -- and developing within the apostolic tradition; and it makes us one in Holy Communion, which is, of course, the only way possible for true unity to occur. Any other claim to unity among Christians resides in the natural realm, is a group of humans holding beliefs more or less loosely in common as they would in a political party or an enthusiast's club. But the unity of Christ's Church is more akin to the blood that binds an extended human family. God gives of His incarnated Self to us, and by way of His Blood, which we take into our own bodies, we are quite literally of one family. In fact, because it is Christ and no other who unites us both materially and spiritually, we become more deeply bonded in this heavenly family than we could ever be in our earthly families, which are but an intimation of the other....

....For as long as I can remember, a part of me has been trying to wake up from the dream of myself and shake my head in the clear brisk air of the real world. Although I have slept late and my eyes are still adjusting to the light, I know now who it was that woke me up. At the moment of Consecration during every Mass, when the priest is holding up the Body of our dear Lord about to be broken, the sanctus bells ring out across the beautiful bluffs that rise above the Mississippi River. That they should sound at such a moment is an anomaly in the modern age. With clarity of tone and timeless beckoning, they send an urgent message into the sleeping valley of the world: Something is happening here, something of indescribable importance. It is an ancient melody that most of us have all but forgotten. These bells are full of yearning. They sing the most poignant song that has ever been sung.

Germany To Jail Parents Who Homeschool Their Children

A federal prosecutor in the German state of Hesse has announced plans to seek three-month prison terms for a mother and father who homeschool their six children, even though the family already has paid fines for violating the nation's Hitler-era homeschooling ban and made plans to move.

The news comes from the Netzwork-Bildungsfreiheit, a German homeschool advocacy group, just days after court officials confirmed, as WND reported, a teen in another German state who was taken to a psychiatric hospital because she was homeschooled has been returned to her family.

Joerg Grosseleumern, a spokesman for the German advocacy group, said a prosecutor, unsatisfied with fines the family already has paid, is demanding the 90-day terms in custody for Juergen and Rosemarie Dudek....

Another High Profile Evangelical Turns Catholic

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The return of a prominent evangelical philosopher and theologian to the Catholic Church, his childhood home, has provoked a storm of controversy in the evangelical community.

Francis J. Beckwith is a tenured associate professor of church-state studies at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, the largest Baptist university in the world. He resigned as president of the Evangelical Theological Society May 5, after entering into full communion with the Catholic Church a week earlier.

He said in interviews that a combination of factors -- including the 1999 Catholic-Lutheran "Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification" and a closer study of the writings of the early Christian theologians known as the Fathers of the Church -- had led him gradually to embrace Catholicism.

Beckwith is a specialist in Christian philosophy, philosophy of religion, social ethics and church-state issues. He has written extensively on issues of religion and public policy. He is especially known for his defense of the pro-life position on abortion and of the constitutionality of teaching, in public schools, the theory of intelligent design as an alternative to evolutionary theory.

His latest book, "Defending Life: A Moral and Legal Case Against Abortion Choice," is slated for release in August...

Motu Proprio Is Imminent - Latin Mass To Be Restored Permenantly

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Top Vatican official, Cardinal Castrllón Hoyos, President of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, has confirmed...
...Undoubtedly, the most important effort, which concerns the entire Church, is the search for an end to the schismatic action and to rebuild the full communion, without ambiguities. The Holy Father, who was for some years a member of this Commission [Ecclesia Dei], wishes it to become an organ of the Holy See with the proper and distinct end of preserving and maintaining the worth of the Traditional Latin Liturgy. Yet it must be said with all clarity that it is not a turning back, a return to the time before the 1970 reform. It is, instead, a generous offer of the Vicar of Christ who, as an expression of his pastoral will, wishes to put at the disposal of the whole Church all the treasures of the Latin Liturgy which for centuries has nourished the spiritual life of so many generations of Catholic faithful. The Holy Father wishes to preserve the immense spiritual, cultural, and aesthetic treasures linked to the Ancient Liturgy. The retrieval of this wealth is linked to the no less precious one of the current Liturgy of the Church.

For these reasons, the Holy Father has the intention of extending to the entire Latin Church the possibility of celebrating Holy Mass and the Sacraments according to the liturgical books promulgated by Blessed John XXIII in 1962. There is today a new and renewed interest for this liturgy, which has never been abolished and which, as we have said, is considered a treasure, and also for this reason [the interest] the Holy Father believes that the time has come to ease, as the first Cardinalatial Commission of 1986 had wished to do, the access to this liturgy, making it an extraordinary form of the one Roman Rite....

Poland Defies EU - Sides With Growing Backlash Against Liberalism

Poland defies the European Union as 3,300 Strong World Congress of Families Closes

WARSAW, May 14, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Poland, the host country of the World Congress of Families IV held in Warsaw May 11-13, 2007, threw down the gauntlet in a frontal challenge to the European Union during the pro-family congress which attracted some 3,300 delegates from all over the world.

Poland's Minister of Education and Vice Prime Minister of Poland, Roman Giertych and the Speaker of Parliament (Sejm) of the Republic of Poland, Marek Jurek, proclaimed during the congress that Poland has no intention of agreeing to the demands of the European Union (EU) that it follow the regulations established in Brussels and the European Parliament to provide abortion, homosexual rights, same-sex marriage and other attacks on the traditional family demanded by the EU...

Worldwide Backlash To Liberalism Begins

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: It has begun! The battle ahead will be long and hard, but it's off to a good start. A worldwide backlash to secular Liberalism is underway. In Europe, the most liberal continent on earth, common people are starting to dissent to the fascist-style policies of their liberal secular governments. The battle begins in Rome, the epicenter of this emerging Christian renewal...

ROME, Italy, May 14, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Italians from across the country poured into Rome May 12 to join in a demonstration against a law that would give legal recognition to homosexual couples--reports showed up to 1.7 million people overflowed the St. John Lateran piazza. Organizers initially expected to draw about 100,000...

...While the pro-family demonstration was backed by the Vatican and Italy's Catholic bishops, it was organized by lay people independently of the Church. The "mind-blowing" success of the event is an outstanding example of the power held by ordinary citizens when sufficiently mobilized in support of traditional values, said Fr. John Zuhlsdorf, a priest in Rome who is the moderator of the Catholic Online Forum.

"The importance of this event is not merely that when left to their own devices the Italian people will support traditional values in great numbers, giving the lie to the script presented by the intellectuals in the press. It also means in concrete terms that the traditional values laity can organize and achieve results."

"The success of "Family Day" also highlights a now deeply entrenched trend not only in Italy, but in the West: the marginalization of the Church from the public square," Fr. Zuhlsdorf said. "Nearly everywhere the Church's is being denied its right to speak freely. Committed Catholic and other religious politicians and public figures and are pressured never to make reference to their religious convictions. The constant mantra is that religion should be a purely private matter than has no influence on public policy. Be religious, fine. But you may never act outwardly on your interior opinions."

Former Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi decided to attend the event when he saw an anti-Catholic cartoon about "Family Day" in the Communist Il Manifesto. Speaking out against those who claim to be Catholic while holding positions in opposition to Church teaching, Berlusconi said, "Left-wing Catholics are an insurmountable contradiction."

"You cannot be at the same time Catholics - and as such considerate of the doctrine of the Church and its teachings on various questions - and then stand with those who are cheek by jowl on the other side."

He went on, "In these recent times there is an attack on the freedom of the Church to express its own convictions. There comes to my mind what happened in the Communist countries, the Church of silence that could speak only within the ambit of its own buildings....

Now Democrats Attack The Catholic Church!

Washington, May. 15, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Eighteen Democratic members of the US House of Representatives have joined in criticizing Pope Benedict XVI for his statement that pro-abortion politicians should not receive Communion.

During a conversation with reporters on May 9, as he was flying to Brazil, the Holy Father had said that he fully supported the decision of some Mexican bishops to bar politicians from receiving the Eucharist after the lawmakers voted to legalize abortion in Mexico City. The Mexican bishops, the Pope said, had "simply announced to the public what is stipulated by the law of the Church."

But the Democratic legislators, led by Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, charged that the Pope's stand (and by implication the laws of the Church) "offend the very nature of the American experiment...

....The May 14 statement was signed by the following Democratic Congressmen:

* Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut
* Joe Baca of California
* Joe Courtney of Connecticut
* Anna Eshoo of California
* Maurice Hinchey of New York
* Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island
* James Langevin of Rhode Island
* John Larson of Connecticut
* Carolyn McCarthy of New York
* Betty McCollum of Montana
* Jim Moran of Virginia
* Bill Pascrell of New Jersey
* Tim Ryan of Ohio
* Linda Sanchez of California
* José Serrano of New York
* Hilda Solis of California
* Mike Thompson of California

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: I've got a news flash for these congressional Democrats -- the pope was simply backing known and established canon law in the Catholic Church. These left-wing bigots are not so much attacking the pope as they are Church canon law. What they're statement is essentially saying is that Church canon law "offends the very nature of the American experiment." In other words CATHOLICISM ITSELF "offends the very nature of the American experiment." In short -- Catholicism is unAmerican!

So goes the legacy of modern Liberalism and the new Democratic Party. To the bigots on the Left, the only good Catholic is a bad Catholic -- meaning one who doesn't practice Catholicism. These bigots (in the United States Congress) have just unwittingly exposed their Anti-Catholic prejudice. In what they thought was a political statement against the pope, they essentially stated that they oppose Catholicism and believe the unchangeable laws of the Catholic religion "offend the very nature of the American experiment." They essentially exposed their bias that an American who truly practices Catholicism cannot be a true American. They exposed their belief that Catholicism is incompatible with America, and may even be a threat to America. This statement is telling indeed, and these US Congressmen have just (unwittingly) "outed" themselves as anti-Catholic bigots.

Oops! I guess they've been BUSTED!

If you happen to be a Catholic living in a congressional district represented by one of these congressmen, you may want to remember that during the next election.

Catholics Against Giuliani

ROME, May 9, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A reporter aboard the Alitalia plane chartered to transport the Pope to Brazil Wednesday asked Pope Benedict XVI if he supported the Mexican bishops in their warning to politicians who supported legalizing abortion that they would face excommunication. The Pope responded saying, "Yes, this excommunication was not an arbitrary one but is allowed by Canon law which says that the killing of an innocent child is incompatible with receiving communion, which is receiving the body of Christ."...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Personally, I like the way Pope John Paul II put it: "there is no room in the church for those who would harm children." The context was a little different, but I think the quote is very appropriate for this setting. Taking all this into consideration, let us look at the candidates for President in the 2008 election. On the Democrat side, there is not a single one who supports the right to life for children in the womb. Not even those claiming to be "Catholic" support the unborn child's right to life. So that eliminates that side of the race. Now on to the Republicans. There is a great deal of debate on the sincerity of those who claim to be Pro-Life, but among those who are running, one stands out as particularly problematic. His name is Rudolph Giuliani, former mayor of New York City, and Catholic Republican who squarely stands against the pope and the Church on the topic of abortion. I don't know about you, but I'm about ready to start a "Catholics Against Giuliani" campaign...
Former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani yesterday sought to quell a growing controversy over abortion that has disrupted his presidential campaign. Restating his support for abortion rights, he asked Republican voters to look beyond that issue to the totality of his platform and record.

Giuliani called abortion "morally wrong" but said he nonetheless favors a woman's right to choose. "I am open to seeking ways of limiting abortions, and I am open to decreasing abortions," he told an audience at Houston Baptist University. "But I believe you have to respect their [women's] viewpoint and give them a level of choice. I would grant women the right to make that choice."

Can The Pope Change American Politics?

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Let's hope so! Papal influence on the 2008 election may be America's last hope...
Is the Pope trying to change American politics?" asks Diane Sawyer on ABC's Good Morning America.

Reporter Dan Harris contrasts remarks regarding abortion from GOP presidential candidates Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney with Pope Benedict's recent assertion that lawmakers who legalize abortion should be excommunicated from the Catholic Church.

"The Pope certainly can elevate the debate and force presidential aspirants to grapple with these issues," says the president of a polling company to ABC's Dan Harris, who asks, "So even though he doesn't vote here, he doesn't live here, he wasn't elected here, he can impact the race here?" The pollster replies, "Sure."

Democrat Congress Goes Gay

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, it does! Now the Democrat controlled congress wants to make it a "crime" for churches and Christian employers to deny a job to homosexuals or cross-dressers. Can you imagine a transgendered church receptionist? Under this new bill (H.R. 2015), it would be a "crime" for congregations and church boards to refuse to hire a gay pastor. I guess this is all starting to make sense now. The New Democratic Party is the new GAY party, using communistic legislation to force homosexuality on the mainstream population whether they like it or not. As a former Democrat, turned Republican, turned Constitutionalist; I can honestly say that neither political party represents the majority of America anymore. Republicans represent globalists and big business, while Democrats represent the homosexuals and marxists. That's it! There is no party for the people anymore. I suppose all of this communistic gay legislation makes perfect sense when you consider who's running the House of Representatives now, and the district she represents. Welcome to the new Democrat version of America - the totalitarian GAY USA! - where it doesn't matter what your religion says, or if you don't agree with homosexuality. Here in the new Democrat GAY USA we will shove homosexuality down your throat, and brainwash your children in our public schools, and you'll LIKE IT! Because if you don't, and you express that in any way, there's a concrete jail cell waiting for you just around the corner...
Following on the heels of an 'anti-discrimination' plan Christians insist would virtually outlaw their religious beliefs comes another proposal – introduced by openly homosexual U.S. Rep. Barney Frank – that requires businesses to give special privileges to "gay" and "transgendered" individuals.

Shari Rendall, director of legislation and public policy for Concerned Women for America, the nation's largest women's public policy group, said H.R. 2015, the "Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2007," would be a disaster.

"This bill would unfairly extend special privileges based upon an individual's changeable sexual behaviors, rather than focusing on immutable, non-behavior characteristics such as skin color or gender. Its passage would both overtly discriminate against and muzzle people of faith. Former Secretary of State Collin Powell put it well when he said, 'Skin color is a benign, non-behavioral characteristic. Sexual orientation is perhaps the most profound of human behavioral characteristics. Comparison of the two is a convenient but invalid argument,'" Rendall said.

The proposal, from U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., follows H.R. 1592, the House-approved plan that would add sexual orientation and gender identity to a list of valid arguments for allegations of a "hate crime" and allow the federal government to intervene when those occur, or even in order to "prevent" one..

..."This bill would force Christian, Jewish or Muslim business owners to hire people who openly choose to engage in homosexual or cross-dressing behaviors despite a sincerely held religious belief that those behaviors are dangerous, sinful and not in keeping with basic morality," added Matt Barber, policy director for cultural issues for CWFA....

This Blog May Soon Be Illegal

THE FLAG CODE
Title 36, U.S.C., Chapter 10
As amended by P.L. 344, 94th Congress
Approved July 7, 1976
§ 176. Respect for flag: No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.
(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Just to give all my readers fair warning, if H.R. 1592 ever becomes law, this blog will soon be illegal, and anything you post here may be a crime.

Currently, H.R. 1592 has passed the US House of Representatives by a fairly large margin, mostly along party lines, with about 25 Republicans crossing over to join Democrats in passing the legislation. A similar bill is expected to pass in the US Senate as well. President Bush has promised a veto. Should Congress be able to garner enough votes to override his veto, H.R. 1592 will become law, and this blog will be in violation of federal law for propagating "hate speech." The so-called "hate speech" is simply because of this blog's message that homosexuality is a sin, and that many homosexual activists are engaged in very coercive and un-American activities against Christians in this nation.

It is widely expected that the US Supreme Court would overturn such legislation if passed into law, but there is no indication of how long this will take, or how many Christians will be prosecuted for "hate crimes" while we wait.

Because of this, 'The Catholic Knight' is at a crossroads, as are millions of other Christian bloggers (whether they realize it or not). His desire is to keep blogging in spite of the threat of government sponsored persecution. However, 'The Catholic Knight' is a family man, and he has to consider the needs of his wife and children as well. It is a very real possibility that all Christian bloggers in the USA will soon have to choose between freedom and family. If, or when, that day comes, 'The Catholic Knight' does not yet know what he will do. All he can do right now is ask for your prayers. Not so much for himself, but for our country, that H.R. 1592 and all similar legislation, will never become law. GOD SAVE THE USA!
