THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: If you read no other article this weekend, read this one...
(The American Spectator) - The children of Diderot at the New York Times understand the secularist Enlightenment project very well. Its executive editor, Bill Keller, telegraphed this in a 2002 column. The New York Times campaign against the pope (and the Catholic Church in general) is well documented here, here and here.
Since he wrote the column before he was promoted to editor, he didn't bother to hide his anti-Catholic bigotry with circumspect throat-clearing. He described himself as a "collapsed Catholic" -- "well beyond lapsed." He affected a false modesty about this, saying that for this reason he claims "no voice in whom the church ordains or how it prays or what it chooses to call a sin." But of course he does claim that voice -- and thinks all should obey it.
He made it clear that he was rooting for "reforms" that would reduce Catholicism to a captive of modern liberalism: "…the struggle within the church is interesting as part of a larger struggle within the human race, between the forces of tolerance and absolutism....

There is no justifiable reason for anyone claiming the name "Catholic" to subscribe to this blatantly anti-Catholic rag of intolerance and hate toward the Catholic Church and anyone who loves their Catholic Christian faith. I've never had a subscription to The New York Times, but if I did I would cancel it immediately, and publicly burn every paper I continued to receive until the deliveries are finally stopped. I would also tell every Catholic soul I know to do the same.
Catholics ought to cancel their subscriptions to local newspapers as well, if they reprint New York Times articles.
Please pass this message on to every Catholic you know. Here is the link: http://catholicknight.blogspot.com/2010/04/why-every-catholic-should-detest-new.html

Mr Knight, the same holds true for every other major print media, the mini-clones of the NYT, including the LA Times, the Philadelphia "Stinkquirer" Chicago tribune, etc. and their toadies in the TV networks like CNN, MSN< CBS etc. The saying used to be "dont trust anybody who buys ink by the barrel" They are all united in a common purpose, to destroy the church, and in particular THIS pope. Pete Frey
PS Sir Knight, already had it posted on my FB page. Other columnists etc such as Rush Limbaugh have come to the defense of the church. Very heartening. Pete Frey
I have never read the NYT nor do I intend to the liberal paper i read when i was in high school was the Pittsburgh post gazette because in my senior year in high school my english teacher decided to teach us students how to read the newspaper the correct way and how to gamble on basketball games and teams.
HAHAHAHAH very good, Tabitha. Yes, there ARE some uses for newspapers, like, the sports pages, etc or wrapping the garbage in. Pete Frey
After 50 years of subscribing my wife and I canceled our subscription to the local leftist newspaper last summer. It's original incorporated name was the "Austin Democrat." We could no longer tolerate it bias editorials and reporting. Our city is populated and controlled by transplanted Woodstock hippies who chose this capital city to pass such ordinances just this week as: to required Christian run family planning clinics to post on their front door that "this facility does not perform abortions nor does it promote the use of contraceptives" (this is an abbreviated form of the message": 2nd: the city just approved sponsoring financially the local Gay Pride parade. Many of its articles are reprints of NYT or LATimes.
The last comment raises an excellent point about subsidiary newspapers. Catholics ought to cancel their subscriptions to all subsidiary newspapers as well if they reprint New York Times articles.
yes peter it sounds interesting but it really ticked me off that he was wasting the schools tax dollars on teaching us to read the newspaper and gamble and when i told my mother she wasn't very happy about the situation either which explains why i always say i didnt learn much in high school because they wouldnt teach cause they were lazy and griped about the no child left behind act cause that meant they actually had to do their jobs and they didnt want to. i will probably be using newspaper for packing cause im going to be moving
