It's official. The Catholic Knight is retired.  I'm hanging up the helmet and passing the torch. There will be no more articles, no more commentaries, no more calls to action. THIS BLOG IS CLOSED. I've spent a very long time thinking about this, I believe the time has come, and is a bit overdue.  I want to thank my readers for everything, but most especially for your encouragement and your willingness to go out there and fight the good fight. So, that being the case, I've spend the last several weeks looking for bloggers who are fairly active, and best represent something akin to the way I think and what I believe.  I recommend the following blogs for my readers to bookmark and check on regularly. Pick one as your favourite, or pick them all. They are all great..... In His Majesty's Service, THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT

Tridentine In English?

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: If one interprets Summorum Pontificum in the context of Vatican II, could the Extraordinary (Tridentine) form of the mass be celebrated in the vernacular language (English, Spanish, French, etc.)? One bishop thinks so. You can read his letter below.

The bishop's letter is as follows...
11/16/2007 Rene Henry Gracida, Bishop Emeritus of Corpus Christi

The fundamental basis for the legitimacy of the use of English in the celebration of the Extraordinary Form of the Mass is to be found in Article 6 of Pope Benedict XVI's Motu Proprio:

Art. 6. In Masses celebrated in the presence of the people in accordance with the Missal of Blessed John XXIII, the readings may be given in the vernacular, using editions recognized by the Apostolic See.

To understand why Pope Benedict authorized the use of the vernacular language even though the Missal as originally promulgated by Blessed Pope John XIII in 1962 is entirely in Latin, one must return to the Decree Sacrosanctum Concilium issued on December 4, 1963 by the Second Vatican Council. In Article 36 (2) the Council stated:

But since the use of the vernacular, whether in the Mass, the administration of the sacraments, or in other parts of the liturgy, may be of great advantage to the people, a wider use may be made of it, especially in the readings, directives and in some prayers and chants.

In Article 54 the Council further stated:

A suitable place may be allotted to the vernacular in Masses which are celebrated with the people, especially in the readings and "the common prayer," and also, as local conditions may warrant, in those parts which pertain to the people, according to the rules laid down in Article 36 of this Constitution.

Further, to understand the relationship of the Missal of Blessed Pope John XXIII to the Council's Decree it is important to note that he died on June 3, 1963. Also, lest one exalt the Missal promulgated by Blessed Pope John XXIII to the equivalent of having been cast in stone as were the Ten Commandments, it is important to remember that is was but one of many revisions of the Missal. Saint Pope Pius X revised the Missal in 1910 and it was published in an Editio Typica by his successor, Pope Benedict XV. Pope Pius XII revised the Missal before he died in 1958 and it was published in an Editio Typica on June 23, 1962 by Blessed Pope John XXIII.

Following the promulgation of the Council's Decree Sacrosanctum Concilium on December 4, 1963, the bishops of the United States petitioned the Holy See on April 2, 1964 for the use of the vernacular in those parts of the Mass celebrated with the Missal of 1962 permitted by Articles 36 and 54 of the Decree. On May 1, 1964 the Holy See granted permission for the bishops of the United States to print the Missal of 1962 with the following parts of the Mass in English:

a) the Epistle and the Gospel

b) the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus-Benedictus and Agnus Dei

c) the Lord's Prayer with its introductory admonition

d) the formula Ecce Agnus Dei and Domine, non sum dignus before the communion of the faithful.

e) the Introit and the Gradual

f) the antiphons at the Offertory and Communion

g) the acclamations, salutations and formulas of dialogue in which the people participate.

Accordingly, the bishops of the United States published, on September 21, 1964 a new EDITION OF THE MISSAL OF BLESSED POPE JOHN XXIII ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED ON JUNE 25, 1960 NOW KNOWN AS THE MISSAL OF 1962.

The use of the vernacular (English) in the celebration of the Extraordinary Form of the Mass is therefore legitimate and is clearly in keeping with the mind of the Second Vatican Council and Pope Benedict XVI.

+Rene Henry Gracida, Bishop Emeritus of Corpus Christi

'The Catholic Knight' has only one comment to add to this. If this bishop is right (it appears that he is), and priests began to capitalize on this around the world, it could mean THE END of the Ordinary (Novus Ordo) form of the mass we currently celebrate. Once today's Catholics get a taste of the reverence and beauty of the old mass in a language they can easily understand, they won't ever want to go back.

What do you think?

Should the Extraordinary (Tridentine) form of the mass be made available to the general public both in Latin and the vernacular language (English)? Comment below, and register your opinion in the 'Tridentine Mass Poll' section to the right.

Archbishop Burke Promotes 'Our Lady of America'

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: His Excellency Raymond Burke, the Archbishop of St. Louis, has approved, and is actively promoting, the devotion to 'Our Lady of America.'  Archbishop Burke is a canon lawyer and holds a high position within the Vatican...
A movement of great consequence has commenced for a definite response by the United States Catholic Bishops in response to private revelations which long ago received official Church recognition as having occurred in the United States. The revelations included apparitions of Our Lord and St. Joseph as well as St. Gabriel and St. Michael, as well as apparitions of The Blessed Virgin Mary as "Our Lady of America" to Sister Mary Ephrem (Mildred Neuzil), of the Precious Blood Sisters (1933-1979) who was later a Contemplative of the Indwelling Trinity (1979 - until death) . Sister Mary Ephrem, deceased on January 10th, 2000, said she was asked by The Blessed Virgin Mary to draw a picture according to the vision of Our Lady of America and have a statue constructed accordingly and placed after a solemn procession into the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, in Washington, D.C.. The Blessed Virgin Mary wishes to be honored in the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at Washington D.C. as Our Lady of America. Our Lady says that if this is done, the United States of America would turn back toward morality and the shrine would become a place of "wonders."
The visions of Sister Mary Ephrem are both wonderful and terrifying. In essence, they call Catholic Americans to conversion by displaying purity in their lives. They call upon the U.S. Catholic Bishops to place a statue of 'Our Lady of America' in the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. If these things are done, the visions promised that greater miracles than those granted at Lourdes and Fatima would be granted here in the United States. However, if these things are not done, the United States will be engulfed in a nuclear war.

Our Lady of America says:
"If my desires are not fulfilled much suffering will come to this land. My faithful one, if my warnings are taken seriously and enough of my children strive constantly and faithfully to renew and reform themselves in their inward and outward lives, then there will be no nuclear war. What happens to the world depends upon those who live in it. There must be much more good than evil prevailing in order to prevent the holocaust that is so near approaching. Yet I tell you, my daughter, even should such a destruction happen because there were not enough souls who took my warning seriously, there will remain a remnant, untouched by the chaos who, having been faithful in following me and spreading my warnings, will gradually inhabit the earth again with their dedicated and holy lives." - source
Considering the serious message of these visions, and the canonical approval of the visionary and devotion, 'The Catholic Knight' believes it to be necessary to make this known to my readers. The statue is currently on display at the John Paul II Cultural Center at Washington D.C. It has not yet made it to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, nor is there any significant evidence that Catholic Americans are converting to display purity in their lives. Some fifty years after the first visions given to Sister May Ephrem, the devotion to 'Our Lady of America' is still in its infancy stage, and her message to Catholic Americans remains virtually unknown. You can learn more about 'Our Lady of America' here and here

Hillary Will Torpedo Obama Campaign - And This Is How She'll Do It...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT:  Anyone who reads this blog knows 'The Catholic Knight' is no friend of John McCain.  I'm also no friend of Hillary Clinton or Barack Hussein Obama.  So this election is more entertainment value for me than anything else. Personally, I think all three candidates are a complete disaster for this country. I believe IF John McCain is elected the next president of the United States, and that's a very big IF, then it will only be because Hillary Clinton will have secretly worked to torpedo the Obama campaign.  Why?  Because she can't run for president again in 2012 if a Democrat is already in the Whitehouse.  So how will she do it?  She already has everything she needs - an angry electorate!

Pope Demands Public Funding For School Choice

( - In a May 29 talk to the Italian bishops' conference, Pope Benedict XVI argued that a democratic state should support Catholic schools.

Since the government invests resources in many different projects, the Holy Father reasoned, "there does not appear to be any justification for excluding adequate support for the work of Church institutions in the field of education." Public investment in Catholic schools, he said, "could not fail to produce beneficial effects" for secular society.

The Italian bishops are holding their 58th general assembly in Rome this week, with the meetings taking place in the Vatican Synod hall. The Pope spoke to the bishops about the main topics for this meeting: education and evangelization.

Italy today faces an "educational crisis," the Pope warned, raising a theme that he has mentioned frequently during his pontificate. The Pontiff has repeatedly spoken about the need to provide young people with adequate moral and cultural formation. From the Catholic perspective, he said, the educational crisis involves "the transmission of the faith to new generations."

Educators and pastors must battle with a culture of relativism, which "puts God within parentheses and discourages all true commitment," the Pope told the Italian hierarchy. To overcome that sort of opposition, he said, the Church needs to muster greater "evangelical energy" and to demonstrate the joy of faith....

Women Priests Get Automatic Excommunication

(AGI) - Vatican City, May 29 - A woman being consecrated as priest besides being invalid, automatically leads to the excommunication of the consecrating bishop and the consecrated woman. A decree issued by the Congregation for Religious Doctrine published today by the 'Osservatore Romano' establishes this. "The Congregation for Religious Doctrine, to protect the nature and validity of the sacrament of the holy order, in virtue of the special faculty to be consecrated by the supreme authority decrees that both the one trying to consecrate a woman in the holy order, and the woman who has tried to receive the holy order, will be excommunicated 'latae sententiae', reserved to the Apostolic See". Such decree is true for all rites in communion with Rome. The text continues that "if he who has tried to consecrate a woman in the holy order or if the woman who has tried to receive the holy order is a faithful subject of the Code of the Rules of the Oriental Churches, he or she will be punished by excommunication, pardon can only be given by the Apostolic See". The decree, specifies the former Holy See, "will come into immediate force from the moment of publication in the 'Osservatore Romano'".

The Insanity Of Barack Obama

ALERT: Christian Leaders Admit Islam Will Soon Replace Christianity

(London Telegraph) - The Bishop of Rochester, the Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, claimed the "social and sexual" revolution of the 1960s had led to a steep decline in the influence of Christianity over society which church leaders had failed to resist.

He said that in its place, Britain had become gripped by the doctrine of "endless self-indulgence" which had led to the destruction of family life, rising levels of drug abuse and drunkenness and mindless violence on the streets.

The bishop warns that the modern politicians' catchphrases of respect and tolerance will not be strong enough to prevent this collapse of traditional virtues, and said radical Islam is now moving in to fill the void created by the decline of Christianity....

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Behold the fruit of Liberalism. This blogger has been saying it for years. Now some of England's top clerical leaders are saying the same. England has become a microcosm of the whole Western World. The fruit of Liberalism is Islam.

That's right, let me say it again just to make it loud and clear....

Allow me to spell it out in a simple format...
  1. Societies need moral and social stability - it's just human nature.
  2. Organized religion is the most effective and efficient way of providing this.
  3. Liberalism (over time) erodes the moral and social stability provided by organized religion.
  4. Liberalism eventually starts to attack organized religion itself.
  5. Thus a religious, moral and social vacuum is created.
  6. Nature abhors a vacuum - and so it must be filled.
  7. Initially unorganized "folk" religions attempt to fill the void.
  8. But unorganized "folk" religions are no match for the effectiveness and efficiency of organized religions.
  9. Therefore, eventually organized religions will take over again.
  10. The most aggressive one usually wins.
Even a devout atheist can understand this.  Whether a man chooses to believe in a religion or not, he has to admit there is a social value to the institution thereof.  What's happening in Europe right now, particularly in England, can be described as nothing less than a paradigm shift.  The institution of Christianity has been relentlessly assaulted on the British Isles.  The Church of England has even gone so far as to cave into the demands of social liberals by allowing female ordination, homosexual ordination and same-sex marriages.  This of course only serves to further erode the Christian religion in England.

The spiritual vacuum created by Liberalism was initially filled with a fascination with the New Age and occult - i.e. "folk" religions.  These eventually reached a crescendo with the bestselling Harry Potter books and movies.  But now these "folk" religions are giving way to the effectiveness and efficiency of organized religion again.  As English Christianity continues to hemorrhage, and the Church of England just can't seem to get it's act together, the British Isles are slowly succumbing to the more aggressive conversion tactics of Islam.  English youths are hungry for moral and social stability.  Liberalism created the very instability they wish to eliminate.  Christianity failed to stop that very same instability from taking over, and in some cases embraced it.  So English youths are now turning to Islam, and its a trend that will only accelerate in the years ahead.  Combine this with the fact that Muslims don't believe in birth control, and you have the potential for an Islamic population explosion in the very near future.  Within a couple of decades, Great Britain will become an Islamic nation.

Can this happen in other nations? YES! It already is happening, particularly in France and the Scandinavian nations of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. All of Europe is threatened by this. There is even some early stages of it developing in Canada. Small pockets of Islamic conversions are starting in California and the New England states as well.

There is only one solution to this problem - only one answer. Unless over the next 30 to 50 years, the Western World is prepared to embrace Islam as the new religious paradigm, western people must reject moral and social Liberalism entirely. Westerners must return to their Christian roots, and embrace the religion of their forefathers. Social anathemas like Abortion will have to be significantly curtailed - if not eliminated. Even the use of artificial birth-control will have to be reduced, so that Christian families can once again approach the same population growth as Islamic families. Social abominations, like gay-marriage will have to be eliminated entirely, and social stigmas will once again have to be applied to pornography, fornication and promiscuity. Traditional marriage (between a man and a woman) will have to be elevated, once again, to the highest pinnacle of social order - the basic building block of western civilization. Divorce will have to be shunned, and harder to obtain. Wives will have to be allowed to sue home-wreckers for seducing their husbands into adultery, and the husbands should be given the same legal right to sue their wives' lovers. Christian religion must be respected by Hollywood and media outlets, as it once was in the middle 20th century. Parents must be given the financial freedom to send their children to religious schools. Public schools must give time for private prayer, and allow Christian students the opportunity to assemble and practice their religion. Likewise, immoral curriculum must be eliminated in the public school classroom. The list goes on...

If this seems like a lot, then it's just an indictment of how far we've fallen as a culture and civilization. The truth is we really have no choice. It's either this or Islam. In some countries, like England, it will happen sooner (maybe about 20 years). In other countries, like the United States, it may take 50 to 100 years, but make no mistake about it. IT WILL HAPPEN. Human nature demands it. Human history dictates it. Either we mend our ways, and start behaving like the western Christian civilization we were once founded as, or we prepare ourselves for the inevitable paradigm shift.

Feminist Bullies In The Catholic Church

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: A dear Catholic sister recently commented on this blog, stating her intention to wear the chapel veil after her daughter is born this summer. She said it was after reading this blog, talking with her husband, and much prayer, that she was able to overcome the peer pressure against the chapel veil in her parish. I responded in support of her decision as follows...
As you can see by the poll at the top of every page on this blog, the chapel veil is supported by the overwhelming majority of Catholics - both men and women (approx. 56%). While about 5% are unsure on the matter, a small minority of just 34% are dead set against it. (I assume these are mostly feminists, and are probably older women.)

However, because of this mere 34%, the overwhelming majority of Catholic women (nearly all), in the English-speaking world, no longer practice veiling. Why? Because they're afraid. They're afraid of what others will think. Yet I've proved on this blog that those who disapprove are a small (albeit loud) minority. They are vastly outnumbered by those who do approve.

This is what we call "the tyranny of the minority." It's when a small group of people are able to control an entire population simply through peer pressure. That's what's going on here. A small minority of "feminist" Catholic women are coercing nearly all Catholic women, by means of peer pressure. They do it by being loud and obnoxious. Put on a veil, and they jump all over you.

That's just WRONG, plain and simple. It's a form of bullying, and it violates what the Bible says on the matter. This small minority of women, are not only behaving as bullies, but their borderline heretics, because in pressuring women to remove the veil, they violate the plain teachings of Scripture on the matter.

I put the chapel veil poll at the top of every page on this blog so women who want to veil will see that they have nothing to fear. Those who support them are in the MAJORITY - a large majority. Only a very tiny minority oppose them, and they do so in violation of Scripture.

Women who wish to veil must take courage. They must understand that they're doing the right thing. And most importantly, they must understand that the few women who oppose this are not only a tiny minority, but they're acting as bullies and heretics when they do so.

It's time for Catholic women to be strong. It's time for them to stand up to tyranny. How dare any woman pressure another to ignore the plain teachings of Scripture on this matter! If that tiny minority wants to refuse the veil, then so be it. Nobody is making them wear one, and nobody is ever going to. But how dare they try to pressure another woman to refuse the veil. Who do they think they are!?!
Let it be known from this time forth that 'The Catholic Knight' will boldly defend the right of any Christian woman (Catholic or otherwise) to veil for prayer and worship. Furthermore, I call upon all Christian men (Catholic or otherwise) to boldly and passionately defend their wives and daughters who make a similar decision. Our women are being bullied by a tiny feminist minority that is hell-bent on peer pressuring them to ignore the plain teachings of Scripture on this matter. A call goes forth from here to all Christian men - "Be a man, and defend your women against the tyranny of the minority."

Latin Mass Packs Out Churches

(Lancaster Online) - Dominus vobiscum ... Et cum spiritu tuo ... Oremus ...

It's been nearly 40 years since the words of the Latin Mass — The Lord be with you; And with thy spirit; Let us pray — echoed through the sanctuary of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

Rosie Gross found the Latin responses coming almost automatically.

"One man said it's like riding a bicycle," the Lancaster woman said.

Former Catholic Liz Lennon agreed.

"This took me back to my childhood," she said....

A congregation estimated at 300 — including many young families with children — filled St. Anthony on East Orange Street for the return of the Latin, or Tridentine, Mass on Saturday, the first of what will be weekly services...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: This is not a passing fad. It's the real deal, and it's here to stay. Why is that? Do you really want to know? The Catholic Knight knows the answer, and it may not be what you think.

It's not the language. Though Latin does have a pretty ring to it, especially when chanted in Gregorian style, the language itself is not the real issue here. That's not why people come. It's not about old people rejecting the new way of doing things, because the Latin Mass is seeing its largest growth among young Catholics. It's not about fundamentalists who have rejected Vatican II, because if that were the case, these people would be attending SSPX parishes that have been well established in virtually every major city around the country. Furthermore, those who are attending these Latin masses are in full communion with Rome, and hold a wide variety of opinions about Vatican II. It's not about people who have simply rejected the new form of the mass either, because a large portion of people attending these Latin masses, also attend the new form English masses as well.

So what is it!?!

Here is the secret. I'll give it to you in one word. Are you ready? I hope you're sitting down. The word is....

That's right, it all has to do with a sense of the sacred. The old form of the mass just has that built right into it. The same kind of solemnity can be found in the new form of the mass too, when it's celebrated properly. But the success of the Latin Mass in recent days is not only a testimony of the beauty associated with the old form, but it is also an indictment of how poorly the new form is being celebrated in parishes all over the country.

It was reported about this time last year that Pope Benedict XVI compared the competition between the old and new form of the mass to a German thumb wrestling match. Many people were baffled by what the pontiff meant by this. Now it appears to be obvious. The people (young and old alike) crave a sense of the sacred. They crave solemnity. So right now, it looks like the old Latin form of the mass, has got the new English form pinned. Anybody care for a rematch?

Overwhelming Support For The Chapel Veil!

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Dear ladies, please take note of the chapel veil poll above. You'll notice immediately that the results indicate an overwhelming support (among men and women) for the chapel veil. The poll has significant responders, and represents a pretty good cross section of Catholic readers. From it we can conclude that an overwhelming MAJORITY of both men and women in the Catholic Church support the chapel veil. They want to see it! They want to bring it back! If ever there was a blinding indictment against the anti-veiling peer pressure so many of you lovely ladies have been subjected to, this is it. It seems that those who oppose the chapel veil are a very small (albeit very loud) MINORITY.

'The Catholic Knight' brings this poll to you lovely ladies as a service, and to let you know that YOU ARE LIBERATED! You are free to veil if you so choose, and you can do so knowing that the overwhelming vast majority of men and women in your parish will silently support your doing so. The opponents to the chapel veil may be loud and obnoxious, but they are a very tiny minority. You can now feel free to regard them as such.

Pope Is About To Change American Politics Forever

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT:  It's not just American politics he's about to change, but that of the entire western world. A political earthquake is coming, and Pope Benedict XVI is going to be it's epicenter. His forthcoming encyclical is sure to be controversial, because it will forever change the direction of political discourse in the western world, and by the timing of this encyclical, it would appear this paradigm shift is set to begin here - in the United Sates of America...
(GodSpy) - G.K. Chesterton once wrote, “The whole modern world has divided itself into conservatives and progressives. The business of progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.”

The tired categories of Left and Right, which we associate with Liberal (or Progressive) and Conservative, originated in the French Revolution, and have long outlived their usefulness. They are way too clunky to capture the complex political opinions that most of us make up as we go along, these days.

We are all “conservatives” in some sense, because we want to “conserve” some things while changing others. We are all “liberals” because we all want to be “free” in some respects. We are all “progressives” because we want to progress towards something: the question is, towards what? A conservative may have to be a revolutionary, for – as Chesterton also wrote – “If we wish to preserve the family, we must revolutionize the nation”. So instead of asking someone, are you conservative or liberal, right-wing or left-wing, why don’t I ask what you want to conserve, and what to change, and why? Then we might have an intelligent debate about politics – the kind of debate that Chesterton wanted to start.

Catholic social teaching certainly does not fit the old labels. It is not an ideology. It is founded on a person, not an idea – the Person of Jesus. It starts by respecting the human person in its full dimensionality, as an image of God. That is why, in a high-level discussion of economic development recently in Ghana, the Holy See insisted:

“It must be clear that development is not only about the growth of the economy in general; it is about the development of the human being with his/her capabilities and relationships with intermediary social groups - family, social, political, cultural groups etc. - within which he/she lives. This requires a change in perspective that recognizes peoples as united by a common factor, their humanity being created with the imprint of the common God creator. Only by starting from this premise can we aim, within pluralist institutions, toward the achievement of the common good, which needs to be the primary objective of any society. The common good is neither an abstract goal nor a simple list of targets. It is simply the realization of the primary needs of the person: the need of truth, love, and justice.”...

Reality Check 2008

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: As far as the Pro-Life and Pro-Family cause is concerned, the presidential election of 2008 is a wash. Neither of the frontrunner presidential candidates on the Democratic side (Clinton or Obama) will be kind to these key issues of social justice. On the Republican side, the presumed nominee (John McCain) is weak on these issues, and has a history of scandalous compromise. Only a naive voter would believe this man would do anything more or less than live up to his abysmal reputation. John McCain is not Pro-Life, and his supposed "opposition" to legalized gay-marriage is questionable.

A coworker friend of mine recently asked me a question on the way into work the other day. "What do you think of our choice in candidates this election season?" I responded; "I think God is trying to tell us to stop relying on men to save our country."

Let's face it. The America we once knew is lost. It's gone folks - now a relic in a museum - pages in a history book. What remains is an empty shell, slowly eroding away, thanks to the cancers of Democratic Liberalism, and Republican Globalism. If the election of 2008 teaches us anything it is this. One man cannot save this country. There will be no "messiahs" for America. I encourage you to vote this November, and to vote Pro-Life, but keep in mind that voting by itself hasn't saved this country so far. So it's highly unlikely it will save it in the future. When the 2008 election is over and done, we may be forced to resign ourselves to a more "european style" United States of America.

What can we do now? 'The Catholic Knight' offers no promises, just a practical battle plan....
  1. PRAY - start a regimented prayer plan for your life modeled after the Divine Office.
  2. PRAY - entrust the United States to Our Lady of America.
  3. PRAY - specifically for your own elected officials, no matter who they are, and regularly let them know that you're praying for them, and specifically why.
That's it. There is nothing else left.

Beast and False Prophet

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: As the California state government prepares to impose gay-marriage on all of its citizens, and ultimately the entire United States via the "full faith and credit clause" of the U.S. Constitution, the Episcopal Church in California is more than happy to provide a religious seal of approval to this abomination. Here we see a classic example of a so-called "Christian" institution serving a sinful procedure of the state. It may not be "The Beast," and "The False Prophet," illustrated in the Book of Revelation, but it certainly does serve as a fine example of what is meant by this apocalyptic vision...
(The Christian Post) - An Episcopal church in California plans to perform marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples beginning mid-June.

All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, one of the largest congregations in the denomination, adopted last Thursday the "Resolution on Marriage Equality" in response to a California Supreme Court ruling that legalized gay "marriage."

The 125-year-old congregation "will treat equally all couples presenting themselves for the rite of marriage," said the Rev. Canon J. Edwin Bacon Jr. in an announcement...

Anglicanism is Ready to Become the Anti-Church

( - The Anglican Church is the perfect vehicle for creating a new “gay” Christianity by virtue of the fact that it is the only church that accepts the logical contradiction of asserting both the sanctity of human life and the existence of a right to abortion.

Episcopal bishop Gene Robinson, whose ordination to the episcopate has precipitated the ongoing schism between traditionally Christian Anglicans and its ultra-liberal, secularized branches, is in London to talk about his vision for the homosexual future of the Anglican Church. He was visiting and promoting his cause in preparation for the upcoming Lambeth Conference in July.

He told an admiring audience in Putney, in southwest London, that Anglicanism is uniquely suited to the establishment of the contradiction of homosexual Christianity. “The Anglican tradition is uniquely capable of holding two seemingly contradictory ideas together. Its position on abortion, for example is that all human life is sacred. And, that no one has the right to tell a woman what to do with her body. Both are true,” he said....

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: A lot will be decided this year at the Lambeth conference. Will orthodox Anglicans from the third-world wrestle back control of the Anglican Communion, or will the English, Canadian and American churches finally get their way? If the orthodox bishops of the Anglican Communion cannot gain firm and visible control of this year's Lambeth Conference then it's over. The Anglican Communion is destined to be recognized by Rome as just another Protestant denomination, and even worse, the organization itself may very well become the vehicle through with Satan establishes an "Anti-Church." What is an Anti-Church? Simply put, it is an organization that imitates the sights and sounds of Christ's Catholic Church, but simultaneously teaches a morality that is nearly 100% opposite. It having an "image of godliness, but denying it's power." - (2nd Timothy 3:5)

Pope Rebukes California Gay Mafia

(Reuters) - Pope Benedict, speaking a day after a California court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage, firmly restated on Friday the Roman Catholic Church's position that only unions between a man and a woman are moral.

Benedict made no mention of the California decision in his speech to family groups from throughout Europe, but stressed the Church's position several times.

"The union of love, based on matrimony between a man and a woman, which makes up the family, represents a good for all society that can not be substituted by, confused with, or compared to other types of unions," he said.

The pope also spoke of the inalienable rights of the traditional family, "founded on matrimony between a man and a woman, to be the natural cradle of human life".

On Thursday, the California Supreme Court overturned a ban on same-sex marriages in a major victory for gay rights advocates that will allow homosexual couples to marry in the most populous U.S. state....

Donohue & Hagee Propose Catholic-Evangelical Social Alliance

(Inside Catholic) - Today at 3.30 pm I had the pleasure of introducing Rev. John Hagee to Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, at Donohue's office in Manhattan....

...The conversation lasted about 45 minutes -- Hagee had to get back to the UN for his evening speech. During that time Hagee and Donohue affirmed their not only the reconciliation but also their future partnership on matters of importance to both them: life, marriage, family, and support for Israel.

Donohue said, "Pastor, you are my friend from this point forward and nothing's going to change that. We have our theological differences but we Catholics and Evangelicals need to work together -- that is the liberals worse nightmare." ...

More On The 'Smoke of Satan'

( - When Pope Paul VI spoke about the "smoke of Satan" entering the Catholic Church, he was referring to liturgical abuses, according to the prelate who served as his master of ceremonies.

Cardinal Virgilio Noe, the chief Vatican liturgist during the pontificate of Paul VI, spoke candidly about the late Pope's concerns in an interview with the Roman Petrus web site. The Italian prelate-- who was also the Vatican's top liturgist under Pope John Paul I and the early years of the pontificate of John Paul II-- is now retired, and at the age of 86 his health is failing. In his interview with Petrus he concentrated primarily on his years serving Pope Paul VI.

[The full interview has been translated by Father John Zulsdorf on his What Does the Prayer Really Say blog.]

Pope Paul accepted the liturgical reforms after Vatican II "with pleasure," Cardinal Noe said. He added that Paul VI was not be nature a sad man, but "he was saddened by the fact of having been left alone by the Roman Curia." Regarding the late Pope's famous remark about the "smoke of Satan," Cardinal Noe said that he knew what Paul VI intended by that statement. In that denunciation, he said, the Pope "meant to include all those priests or bishops and cardinals who didn't render worship to the Lord by celebrating badly Holy Mass because of an errant interpretation of the implementation of the Second Vatican Council. He spoke of the smoke of Satan because he maintained that those priests who turned Holy Mass into dross in the name of creativity, in reality were possessed of the vainglory and the pride of the Evil One. So, the smoke of Satan was nothing other than the mentality which wanted to distort the traditional and liturgical canons of the Eucharistic ceremony." ...

Is The "Smoke of Satan" In Your Parish?

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: In light of the recent revelation of what Pope Paul VI meant by his "Smoke of Satan in the Sanctuary" statement, (read more here), and it having to do with lax liturgical practices by priests and bishops, The Catholic Knight inquires of my readers if you've seen any such "smoke" in your parish? If so, please share your eye witness accounts here....

Smoke of Satan

(New Liturgical Movement) - ...In other Italian news, Petrus has an exclusive interview with Cardinal Noe, the former papal Master of Ceremonies under Paul VI on through to the earlier years of John Paul II's pontificate, which addresses the question of what Paul VI was referring to in his famed "smoke in the sanctuary" remark.

On that question, Cardinal Noe reveals that Paul VI meant to speak of all those clergy, even bishops and cardinals, who poorly celebrated the sacred liturgy through an erroneous interpretation and application of Vatican II, and who thereby distorted the traditional liturgy of the Church.

Here is the relevant passage in Italian; the NLM will bring you a translation of this shortly:

The interview presents Cardinal Noe's clear affinity and love for Pope Montini. He speaks of his role as master of ceremonies during the time of the liturgical reform. He also spoke of the fact that the liturgy must always be celebrated with decorum and spoke highly of the manner in which Pope Benedict XVI celebrated the liturgy.

Cardinal Noe further notes that there is a need to "recover, and quickly" the sense of the sacred in the liturgy.

Libertarian Candidate Gives Catholics Another Choice in 2008

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: He may seem like a "nobody" to you now, but this guy is making waves on the political scene. I've never seen a third-party candidate make such a big splash on the media airwaves, and I've got a feeling he's about to make a bigger one in the very near future.

Who is Bob Barr?
Robert Laurence "Bob" Barr, Jr. (born November 5, 1948) is an American attorney and former member of the United States House of Representatives. Barr represented Georgia's 7th congressional district as a Republican from 1995 to 2003. He achieved national prominence as one of the leaders of the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

Barr joined the Libertarian Party in 2006, and as of 2008 serves on its National Committee. On April 5, 2008, Barr announced the formation of an exploratory committee for his seeking the Libertarian nomination for President of the United States in the 2008 election. On May 12, 2008, Barr formally announced his candidacy for the presidency.

Even though this blogger has thrown his support behind Alan Keyes, I feel it only fair and necessary to give proper attention to a candidate who scores so well on issues of Catholic Social Justice.

Libertarianism, as a philosophy, is incompatible with Catholicism at it's core value. In summary, Libertarianism views individual people as sovereign and supreme. While Catholicism views God as sovereign and supreme. Under Libertarianism, rights come form the sovereignty of individuals. Under Catholicism, rights come from God. (Incidentally, the 'Declaration of Independence' agrees with Catholicism on this one.) This philosophical flaw in the Libertarian mindset leads the Libertarian Party to adopt a contradicting stand on human life -- whereas in the case of abortion, the party is essentially Pro-Choice, but simultaneously calls for a ban on all public funding of abortion. The Libertarian Party has other problems as well, which is why 'The Catholic Knight' will never be a member. That being said, a small independent group called "Libertarians for Life" does receive the support of 'The Catholic Knight.'

In spite of all that, the effects of Libertarian ideals can at times score very well with Catholic Social Justice. This is particularly true with some Libertarian candidates, who don't always agree with the party on certain issues. Such is the case with Bob Barr.

Pope Benedict XVI, in an attempt to help Catholics better grasp the most important issues of Catholic Social Justice facing our time, listed 3 non-negotiable issues that Catholics could score candidates by, to see how they measure up. (read more here) Though Bob Barr is a Methodist, his papal score is 100%...

1. He's Pro-Life
2. He's opposes gay-marriage
3. He favors school-choice

Beyond that, Barr scores even higher in Catholic Social Justice, on issues the pope does consider negotiable...

4. He opposes preemptive wars
5. He supports the Fair-Tax
6. He has a voting record consistent with social principle of subsidiarity

Overall, I would have to classify Bob Barr as a true conservative in the spirit of Ronald Reagan. Good practicing Catholics should have no moral problems with this candidate.

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: You see! This is why you never give up. The Evangelicals are our separated BRETHREN. They are not our enemies. The core of their Christian faith is Catholic, in the sense that they believe in the Trinity and Incarnation. They hold to the virgin birth of Christ, and worship God on Sundays. They celebrate Christmas and Easter, according to the CATHOLIC calendar. Think of them as Cafeteria Catholics, who agree with the Church on most moral issues, but have become confused and separated on some peripheral doctrinal issues. Part of this confusion leads to anti-Catholicism, mainly for two reasons. First, they don't understand who they really are and where their faith really comes from. Second, they get caught up in elaborate heretical doctrines (like dispensation theology) that lead them in all kinds of crazy directions - one of which is anti-Catholicism. Are they essentially Catholic in their most core beliefs? - YES. Have they forgotten who they are, and where their faith comes from? - YES. Are they terribly confused about peripheral doctrinal issues, and uneducated about history? - YES. Are they enemies to Catholics and the Catholic Church? - NO!

You ask; How do we deal with them? The answer is simple. First, be Catholic! Understanding your faith, and practicing it to the fullest, will do more to win them over than anything else you could imagine. Second, reach out to them with brotherly love. This may include a fraternal rebuke from time to time, but make sure you condemn their teachings, and not the people themselves. Third, educate them. Find out where they are in error, then find a way to correct the error.

This is what we did with Pastor John Hagee. The Catholic League did their part - which was huge - and we did ours. I want to personally thank each and every one of you who took The Catholic Knight's challenge to purchase a copy of Rabbi David Dalin's book and send it to Cornerstone Church in San Antonio. (read more here) Bravo! You've done Holy Mother Church a great service, and it looks as if even Pastor Hagee is thankful.

To Pastor John Hagee I wish to say the following. The Catholic Knight accepts your apology, and thanks God for the grace he has given you to see the truth. Now The Catholic Knight presents you with a new challenge to strengthen fraternal charity between Catholics and your congregation. I challenge you to follow your apology with efforts to undo the damage that was done. Please make mention of the good things done by the Catholic Church during the Holocaust, and how the crusades and inquisitions were not primarily directed at Protestants, but rather Muslims, who sought to undermine the Christian faith in Europe at every possible opportunity. Do this, and we Catholics will know that you truly mean what you say in your written apology.

Attn: Mr. William Donohue, President

Dear Mr. Donohue,

In so far as some of my past statements regarding the Roman Catholic Church have raised concerns in your community, I am writing in a spirit of respect and reconciliation to clarify my views.

Out of a desire to advance greater unity among Catholics and Evangelicals in promoting the common good, I want to express my deep regret for any comments that Catholics have found hurtful. After engaging in constructive dialogue with Catholic friends and leaders, I now have an improved understanding of the Catholic Church, its relation to the Jewish faith, and the history of anti-Catholicism.

In my zeal to oppose anti-Semitism and bigotry in all its ugly forms, I have often emphasized the darkest chapters in the history of catholic and Protestant relations with the Jews. In the process, I may have contributed to the mistaken impression that the anti-Jewish violence of the Crusades and the Inquisition, defines the Catholic Church.

It most certainly does not.

Likewise, I have not sufficiently expressed my deep appreciation for the efforts of Catholics who opposed the persecution of the Jewish people. It is important to note that there were thousands of righteous Catholics – both clergy and laymen- who risked their lives to save Jews from the Holocaust. According to many scholars, including martin Gilbert and Rabbi David Dalin (author of “The Myth of Hitler’s Pope”), Pope Pius XII personally intervened to save Jews.

In addition, I better understand that reference to the Roman Catholic Church as the “apostate church” and the “great whore”, appear only during the seven years of tribulation after all true believers – Catholic and Protestant- have been taken up to heaven. Therefore, neither of these phrases can be synonymous with the Catholic Church.

In recent decades, Catholics and Evangelicals of good will have worked together to defeat communism, promote what Pope John Paul II called a “culture of life” that protects every human life from conception to natural death, honors the institution of marriage, and defends the rights of the poor.

As I wrote in my tribute to Pope Benedict XVI after President Bush welcomed him to the White House, he “spoke for all of us when he said that ‘any tendency to treat religion as a private matter must be resisted’ and called for Christian participation ‘ in the exchange of ideas in the public square.’’’ Both Catholics and Evangelicals have been engaged in an effort to assert the primacy of faith and values in our increasingly secular society.

My profound respect for the Catholic people has been expressed in my own ministry. For example, when the Ursuline Sisters of San Antonio were on the verge of losing their home, our Church bought the property for our school and allowed them to continue living in their home free of charge for twelve years. The sisters were part of the daily life of the School, walking the grounds and the hallways where the children would embrace them and hold their hands in friendship.

The love of the schoolchildren for those sisters symbolized my own feelings as well. I pledge to address these sensitive subjects in the future with a greater level of compassion and respect for my Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ.

It is this sense of Christian fellowship I hope to re-establish with Catholics with whom I and all Evangelicals must unite to be a voice for life, the family, marriage and Christian values to our Nation and the world.

Legalized Abortion, Like Communism, Will Fall

(Catholic Online) - We must prepare ourselves for the real work of building a culture of life and civilization of love, a new society. The end of Roe is not the end of the struggle....

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: The terrorist regime of abortion-on-demand, created by the United States Supreme Court in 1973, will soon fall, just as the Soviet Union did in 1991. Though this may seem impossible to us today, it WILL come about SOON, just as the world was shocked by the fall of communism almost 20 years ago.

It has to fall. Why? Because it defies natural law. If it's not brought down by a miraculous event, then it will fall of it's own accord simply because regimes that defy natural law, do not last. Nature itself takes care of them, whether that be human nature, or natural forces.

This is not the first time the United States of America has fostered and coddled an unnatural regime. The Constitution of the Untied States bears the mark of the unnatural regime called slavery. What emerged from the Civil War (1861-1865) was a totally new nation, bearing virtually no resemblance to the former, and radically altered in constitutional amendments that changed the form and structure of government within the Union. This is why Abraham Lincoln is typically recognized as a "founding father" even through his presidency was over a generation removed from the founding of the United States. He was a "founder" in the sense that his presidency "re-founded" the United States government in an entirely new way which was (for better or worse) entirely separate from the old. The Washingtonian regime fell with the Civil War, and what rose from the ashes was the Lincolnian regime, which Americans have lived under ever since. Under the Lincolnian regime we have seen the fall of institutionalized segregation, and the emphasis on racial equality. But Lincoln's America is fundamentally flawed in that it does not recognize the fundamental Right to Life of America's most vulnerable - the terminally ill, elderly and unborn. The federal government has had decades to repent of this, all to no avail, so natural law dictates that it is just a matter of time before there is another regime change.

Fortunately for all Americans, the terrorist regime of abortion-on-demand is not enshrined in the U.S. Constitution itself. There is no article within the Constitution that guarantees a woman's so-called "right" to an abortion. That's good news for all of us. Had such an article existed, we might be facing a situation similar to the circumstances just prior to the Civil War in 1860. However, the terrorist regime of abortion-on-demand is entirely dependent on an INTERPRETATION of the Constitution enshrined in the Supreme Court decision called Roe v. Wade. Therefore, that regime can easily be changed with another interpretation of the Supreme Court. It can also be changed through legislative means. The U.S. Congress only needs to remove jurisdiction of hearing abortion cases from the federal courts - something that is entirely within its power.  If federal courts cannot hear abortion cases, then states can pass their own laws on abortion, and the U.S. Supreme Court would be powerless to overrule them. There is also a third option. The U.S. Congress could pass the Human Life Amendment, and the states could ratify it, thus guaranteeing the Right to Life in the Constitution itself. Any of the above situations could happen, and I suspect one of them will happen very soon, much to every one's surprise.

During the era of Washingtonian America (1776-1861), the issue of slavery was morally ambiguous to the people of that time, just as the issue of abortion seems morally ambiguous to many people today.  Americans were divided on slavery. Some claimed it was an issue of property rights, and to free slaves would violate the rights of property owners. Others claimed the human right to freedom superseded property rights. The later were called abolitionists, but in today's political language we might call them "Pro-Freedom." While those who advocated property rights, to justify slavery, we could only call "Pro-Choice." The Pro-Choice Washingtonian America fell in 1861. That was the end of that regime. The Pro-Choice regime of today's Lincolnian America will fall too. It is inevitable, but hopefully, its fall will not be so violent.

In all reality, Lincoln's America is already falling. There may not be a Civil War coming, but the effects of the "culture of death" on our civilization are similar. Our city streets are overrun with drugs and gang violence. Our economy is crumbling. Our national leaders are willfully surrendering our sovereignty to globalism, NAFTA, and the emerging North American Union. Our nation is in a seemingly endless war against terrorist organizations, hell bent on destroying us. All of these things are but signs that the end of our current national regime is near. God has withdrawn his blessing from the United States. How can he possibly bless this nation, when it defends the wholesale slaughter of the innocent unborn? Regime change is coming, and one way or another, abortion-on-demand will soon come to an end in this nation.

When that day comes, and it will come, we must be prepared to rebuild America as a culture of life, upon the ashes of what's left of our fallen nation. That's when the real work begins. BE PREPARED!!! THE DAY IS COMING SOON!!!

Largest Pro-Life March EVER in Canada!

( - A massive crowd of pro-life demonstrators, the majority of whom were youth, gathered on Parliament Hill in Ottawa today to issue a call to legislators and Canadians as a whole to put an end to abortion in Canada. An estimate given by a police officer to Campaign Life Coalition president Jim Hughes was that a record-breaking crowd of 8,000 people participated in this 11th annual March for Life. Several other crowd-counters came up with almost identical numbers, making the 2008 March the largest March in the history of the pro-life event.

The day's events began with a Protestant prayer service and a Catholic Mass, the latter of which was held at Notre Dame Basilica and celebrated by Ottawa Archbishop Terrence Prendergast. The Archbishop also later attended and walked in the March. The Basilica, which can hold a capacity crowd of 1200, was packed to the rafters, to the point where not only were all the seats filled, but even standing room gave out and people had to be turned away from the Church.

After the prayer events, pro-life demonstrators began gathering on Parliament Hill beginning at noon under a cloudy sky and cooler-than-average temperatures - the day's projected high was a mere 12 degrees Celsius, or 52 Fahrenheit. The sky itself threatened rain, but as the speeches progressed the clouds cleared and as the March got underway participants walked under largely sunny skies.

Witnesses said that the mood on the Hill was extremely jubilant. David McDonald, the one-time Broadway performer turned pro-life, Christian musician, led the crowd in his repertoire of songs, with which the crowd enthusiastically sang along. As the speeches got underway a group of about 8 pro-abortion activists walked up close to the stage and heckled the speakers, shouting obscenities and pro-abortion slogans. The hecklers attempted to interrupt the testimonies of the women from Silent No More Campaign, but witnesses say that the more the hecklers tried to interrupt, the louder and more enthusiastically the crowd cheered the women on.

A number of MPs attended the March, including Pierre Lemieux who was accompanied by his wife and kids...

Catholic Governor To Be Denied Communion

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: We definitely need more bishops like this one...
(Prime Buzz) - Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius should stop taking Communion until she repudiates her support for the “serious moral evil” of abortion, the Catholic archbishop for northeast Kansas says.

Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann, of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, also criticized the governor Friday for her recent veto of a bill imposing new restrictions on abortion providers.

In a column published in the archdiocesan newspaper The Leaven, (read it below) Naumann called on the Catholic governor to take the “necessary steps for amendment of her life.”

Naumann later told The Kansas City Star that would involve a confession, a public apology and a promise to undo the damage done by her “scandalous behavior that has misled people into dangerous behavior.”

Sebelius spokeswoman Nicole Corcoran said the governor had not seen the column, but said “receiving Communion has not been a problem in the past for her.”

The issue of Catholic politicians taking Communion arose again recently because of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the United States. In New York, Cardinal Edward Egan said former mayor Rudy Guiliani had broken “an understanding” by accepting Communion at a papal Mass.

Four years ago, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said leaders who support abortion rights were “cooperating in evil” and their bishop should decide whether to deny them Communion...

More Anglicans Lean Toward Rome

(London Telegraph) - ...There is tremendous enthusiasm for Pope Benedict among Anglo-Catholics, who love his theological emphasis on beauty in the liturgy. He, in turn, is anxious to welcome them into the Roman fold....

.....It is these last people who are enduring the worst pain. They want to seize the hour while the chair of Peter is occupied by a brilliant theologian who recognises the special qualities of Anglo-Catholicism. They admire Benedict's boldness in removing the power of diocesan bishops to block the traditional Latin Mass and encouraging the setting up of congregations using only the 1962 Missal. Could he make similar arrangements for ex-Anglicans?......

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: The article itself is a bit depressing, but it accurately depicts the current state of mind for traditionalists within the Anglican Communion. What's important to note here is that more Anglicans are thinking about this, and I have a feeling that this year's Lambeth conference is going to help focus things quite a bit, perhaps giving Anglo-Catholics the incentive they need to swim the Tiber.

Barack Obama's Anti-Catholic Connections

click here to learn more about this ad
(NewsMax) - Catholic League President Bill Donahue has slammed Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on the abortion issue and termed his stance as a state senator "Hitlerian."

On May 2, Donahue issued a news release urging Obama to dissolve his Catholic National Advisory Council because none of the public officials on the Council agree with the Catholic Church's position on abortion, embryonic stem cell research, and school vouchers....

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Okay, let's lay it all out on the table. If you've got a "Catholic National Advisory Council," and not a single person on that council agrees with the Catholic Church's most fundamental moral and social teachings, then essentially what you have as a committee that believes the only good Catholic is a bad Catholic.  By "bad Catholic" I mean one who opposes the Church on all of it's most fundamental moral and social teachings. What we have here is the epitome of prejudice.  It's bigoted and anti-Catholic to the core.

If Obama wants a REAL "Catholic National Advisory Council," he should try putting one together that is at least HALF Pro-Catholic on social issues, then at least he could say that he's TRYING to reach out to Catholics. What he's doing right now is insulting. Combine that with the donation he accepted from (a blatantly Anti-Catholic organization) and it's downright offensive!

Environmentalists Advocate Genocide

( - "May we live long and die out" is the unofficial motto of a new movement that seeks to improve the Earth's ecosystem by ensuring that the human species does not survive.

The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, or VHEMT, consists of volunteers who have made active life decisions to remain childless for the benefit of the Earth, thereby preventing the extinction of millions of species of plants and animals....

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: The writing as been on the wall for decades. When you look at the following, we all should have seen it coming....
  1. wide availability of artificial birth-control and how it's pushed on children in public schools,
  2. legalization and public funding of abortion-on-demand,
  3. one-child policy of nations like China,
  4. a virtually nonexistent birthrate among Europeans,
  5. and the falling birthrate among Americans and Canadians.
It was just a matter of time before it would come to this. At the heart of the radical environmentalist movement is a message of genocide - the voluntary self-annihilation of the human race.  To be a good steward of "mother earth" we should all just die!  The people who advocate this might actually be funny, if they didn't have so much political power.  Right now the radical environmentalists have got a virtual choke hold on the U.S. Congress, as well as many state legislatures.  The policies they push are already contributing to the starvation of millions of people.  For example...
  1. Environmentalists have pressured the U.S. Congress to pass laws restricting any new drilling for oil on American soil.
  2. Environmentalists has pressured the U.S. Congress to pass strict regulations limiting the amount of oil refineries can produce.
  3. As a result, the United States has become almost totally dependent on foreign oil.
  4. As foreign oil sources tighten their grip on the market, the price of oil goes up.
  5. As the price of oil goes up, so does the price of everything else, including food.
  6. Thus poor people in the third-world starve.
  7. The increased price of oil causes industrialized nations (like the United States) to invest in biofuels.
  8. Biofuels consume farmland, and restrict the amount of food that can be produced, thus driving the price of food up higher.
  9. So more poor people in the third-world starve.
  10. To correct all of these problems, which extreme environmentalists ultimately created, thy offer us a solution -- voluntary genocide.
Will this madness ever cease!  When (if ever) will our government finally wake up to the hoax these environmentalist hucksters have been pulling over on us?  I haven't even begun to touch on the farce of "man-made global warming."

In contrast, the words of Pope Benedict XVI ring out with such clarity. (read more here) The pontiff advocates a more reasonable and compassionate form of environmentalism.  (Perhaps we should just call it "conservationism.")  In the pope's version, changes are made in our daily lives to conserve energy and find new ways of making energy, but NOT at the expense of hurting people.  (Or advocating self-genocide!)  The effects of our changes should be carefully weighed, to make sure the poor in third-world nations are not adversely affected by it.

We should have known environmentalism would eventually come to this.  Any philosophy that puts the needs of a tree over the needs of our fellow man is inherently flawed and ultimately irrational.  I suppose the best we can hope for is that this movement will only take off among the radical environmentalists, and then maybe, just maybe, we can finally be rid of them (and their insanity) within a generation or so.

A Rising Star In The Vatican

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT:  Archbishop Burke fully understands canon law, and the role of the episcopal office in enforcing it. He's publicly announced that no pro-abortion Catholic politician is allowed to receive communion in his archdiocese, and he has warned specific politicians (such as former presidential candidate John Kerry) not to present himself for communion there.

His swift action against Father Marek Bozek and St. Stanislaus Church proved not only prudent but absolutely necessary. The incident that resulted in the excommunication of Bozek and the parish board members was initially over disobedience and acts of schism. Two years later, Bozek participated in a ceremony at which two women were ordained to the priesthood by a group called Catholic WomenPriests. On Feb. 3rd of 2008, he said he would give Communion to anyone, including people who weren't Catholics. Bozek proved to be a loose canon, and the board members at St. Stanislaus Church were more than willing to assist him in his acts of disobedience, schism and heresy. Burke saw this coming before anyone else did, and acted accordingly, before this rogue priest could bring down scandal on the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Now it would appear the Vatican has seen the potential in Archbishop Burke, and has placed him in key positions that will shape the way the Catholic Church is governed in the years ahead. Pope Benedict XVI's influence is starting to take shape...
( - Pope Benedict XVI named St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke to two Vatican offices Tuesday, increasing Burke's already prominent stature in Rome.

Burke, a canon lawyer by training, was one of eight cardinals and archbishops worldwide who Benedict named to the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, which interprets canon, or church, law.

The archbishop was one of three Americans and one of only two archbishops named to the council. The other men assigned to the council were all cardinals, four of them the heads of Vatican dicasteries, or agencies — an indication of the faith the Vatican has in Burke....

Is An Anglican - Roman Catholic Convergence Coming?

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT:  Recent developments in the Anglican world, combined with recent statements made by officials at the Vatican, have caused 'The Catholic Knight' to question if an Anglo Catholic and Roman Catholic convergence is not far away.

Members of the Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) have been petitioning the Vatican for entry into the Catholic Church as a fully recognized Anglican Rite.  Simultaneously, Anglicans who have already entered the Catholic Church through the Anglican Use Pastoral Provision, (created by Pope John Paul II), have also been working toward the creation of a full fledged Anglican Rite.  At the same time, Anglican bishops from all over the third-world, who are still in communion with Canterbury, have been petitioning the Vatican privately for the exact same thing.

What has hindered the Vatican from granting this request so far is ecumenical relations with the Anglican Communion.  Rome does not want to step on Canterbury's toes and damage any ecumenical progress that has already been made.  However, in the long history of Catholic-Anglican discussions, certain national churches within the Communion itself have been moving further and further away from orthodoxy.  The Vatican has made it clear that the Anglican practice of ordaining female clergy already presents a serious obstacle to restoring unity between the two churches.  Compound this with the ordination of female bishops, and the promotion of homosexuality, and it is starting to become clear that rehabilitation of this organization is nearly impossible.

Thus enters the comments of Cardinal Walter Kasper, the president of the Pontifical Council of Christian Unity, who said it was time for Anglicanism to "clarify its identity". He continued; "Does it belong more to the churches of the first millennium -Catholic and Orthodox - or does it belong more to the Protestant churches of the 16th century? At the moment it is somewhere in between, but it must clarify its identity now and that will not be possible without certain difficult decisions."  Here we have the clincher.  Rome is calling Canterbury out.  Are you Catholic or not?  Decisions will be made at this year's Lambeth conference whether the Anglican bishops intend to make them or not.  Rome appears to be indicating that it will "monitoring" this years Lambeth conference very closely, and will be "adjusting" it's ecumenical dialog with Canterbury based on the Anglican bishops' decision or lack thereof.  The Anglican bishops now find themselves under a tremendous amount of pressure at this upcoming Lambeth conference.  Failure to make the "difficult decisions" of putting down homosexuality and stopping the ordination of women, will put Canterbury squarely at odds with historic catholic patrimony - thus relegating the Anglican Communion to a mere Protestant denomination in the eyes of Rome.  Once that happens, it opens the door for the creation of an Anglican Rite within the Catholic Church, as a refuge for Anglo Catholics seeking protection from the Protestantized Anglican Communion centered primarily in England, Canada and the United States.

On the other hand, in the unlikely event that Anglican bishops square up with their catholic patrimony at Lambeth, and make the "difficult decisions" needed to prove that catholicism is not dead within their church yet, then Rome will have no trouble pursuing further ecumenical relations with Canterbury, on the same level as with the Eastern Orthodox churches.

The choice is left squarely in the Anglican bishops' hands, and they have little time left to make up their minds.  Decision, or lack thereof, will soon determine their relations with Rome, and the future of Anglo Catholicism.  Whatever their decision, or lack thereof, it seems to this blogger, that an Anglo - Roman Catholic convergence is eminent, one way or another.  I certainly won't commit to any kind of time table, but it seems that Pope John Paul II's work with the Anglicans may soon find it's completion in the pontificate of Pope Benedict XVI.

U.S. Bishops Set To Vote On New Mass Translation This June

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: This new translation of the mass more accurately renders in English the original Latin text, and is more true to the historic tradition of Catholic liturgy. It has been hailed by English and Latin scholars all over the world as a masterpiece. In any case, it will be far better than the English translation we're currently using for mass...
(CNS) -- Matters of liturgy and language will dominate the agenda of the U.S. bishops' spring meeting June 12-14 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla. But such hot-button issues as embryonic stem-cell research, medically assisted nutrition and hydration, and clergy sex abuse also will come before the bishops.

Much of the three-day meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops will be closed to the media, with the schedule calling for executive session, regional meetings and an afternoon of prayer and reflection.

As they begin what Bishop Arthur J. Serratelli of Paterson, N.J., chairman of the USCCB Committee on Divine Worship, called "the final phase of the process of translation and approval of the Roman Missal for use in the United States," the bishops will vote on a new translation of the proper prayers for each Sunday and feast day during the liturgical year...

Traditional Anglicanism Is On The Rise

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: As the Episcopal Church USA (ECUSA) leads the charge toward apostasy, and the Anglican Communion continues to crumble over it, a new Anglican voice is starting to ring through with clarity. It is the voice of the Traditional Anglican Communion (or "TAC"). Having left the Episcopal Church in the 1970's over women's ordination, this splinter group of the Episcopal Church in the USA has now grown to an international movement. All over the world, Episcopalians/Anglicans are leaving the national churches affiliated with Canterbury, in favor of joining a TAC which is in full communion with the Apostolic deposit of faith. The TAC has entered into an official dialog with the Vatican over re-entering the Catholic Church as its own Rite. If (or when) these negotiations are successful, the TAC would most probably be reunited with their Anglican Catholic brethren currently sheltered in the Anglican Use Pastoral Provision (AUPP) of the Catholic Church.

Regardless of where traditional Anglicans end up, whether in the TAC or the AUPP, one thing is certain. The modernist influence over the Episcopal Church USA, and worldwide Anglican Communion, has taken its toll. The Anglican Communion is losing its most devoted members. Liberal Anglicanism is shrinking. The traditional spheres of Anglicanism (TAC and AUPP) are growing in size and influence. The faithful within Anglicanism are "voting with their feet," as they say, and the results are becoming more obvious with each passing year.

Attention Anglo-Catholics: Rome Demands A Choice

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Before ecumenical relations between Catholics and Anglicans can continue, the Anglican bishops must make a choice. Specifically in question; are they Catholic or Protestant? For nearly five centuries, Anglicans have tried to walk a fine balance in between both worlds, but what Anglicans view as a virtue, the Vatican sees as an impediment to ecumenical relations. Either you're one or the other, but you can't be both. Either your roots are planted in the Apostolic fathers, or else in the Reformation fathers.

If their roots are planted in the Apostolic fathers, then there are some standards of the Apostolic faith Anglicans would be expected to uphold. Especially if eventual reunion between Catholics and Anglicans is ever to occur.   Ultimately, it is Anglican dabbling into Protestant ideology that has allowed them to embrace the anti-apostolic notions of female clergy and homosexuality.  The deposit of faith left by the apostles clearly prohibits such things, and all churches grounded in this deposit (such as Catholicism & Eastern Orthodoxy) fully understand that.  If Anglicanism is to be considered "catholic" in any sense at all, then it must affirm its grounding in this deposit of faith, and thus bring an end to female ordination and their embrace of homosexuality.

If their roots are planted in the Reformation fathers, then it would appear that anything goes, and reunion with Catholicism is totally impossible. The best Anglicans and Catholics could hope for is a general non-binding agreement on some moral and social issues, but nothing of any real significance.

So which shall it be? The Vatican has made it clear that it will begin to adjust it's ecumenical dialog accordingly after this year's upcoming Lambeth conference...
(The Catholic Herald) - The Vatican has said that the time has come for the Anglican Church to choose between Protestantism and the ancient churches of Rome and Orthodoxy.

Speaking on the day that the Archbishop of Canterbury met Benedict XVI in Rome, Cardinal Walter Kasper, the president of the Pontifical Council of Christian Unity, said it was time for Anglicanism to "clarify its identity".

He told the Catholic Herald: "Ultimately, it is a question of the identity of the Anglican Church. Where does it belong?

"Does it belong more to the churches of the first millennium -Catholic and Orthodox - or does it belong more to the Protestant churches of the 16th century? At the moment it is somewhere in between, but it must clarify its identity now and that will not be possible without certain difficult decisions."

He said he hoped that the Lambeth conference, an event which brings the worldwide Anglican Communion together every 10 years, would be the deciding moment for Anglicanism....

The Catholic Knight has a prediction. At Lambeth, the Anglican bishops will once again, as they do with everything else, try to come up with a politically correct statement that says a whole lot of nothing. They'll try to come up with a statement that appeases the Vatican, and simultaneously allows them to continue to dabble in Protestantism at their discretion. Rome has made it clear though. It will accept nothing but an unequivocal choice. If no clear decision is made at Lambeth, then a clear decision has been made, and it is to pursue Protestantism.  At that point, the Vatican will probably regard Anglicanism as a Protestant denomination, and adjust its ecumenical dialog accordingly.

The Anglican bishops can pussyfoot around at Lambeth all they want this year, but Rome will not play that game. Anglo-Catholics should take note. According to Rome, this year is the moment of truth.  Anglo-Catholics may want to take a hard look at the Anglican Use Pastoral Provision (AUPP) in the Catholic Church, or at least the Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC), should events in Lambeth not go well this year.

Pope Wants Tridentine Mass In Every Parish!

(London Telegraph) - ...According to a senior Vatican cardinal, Pope Benedict wants the old Latin Mass celebrated in parishes even where the people have not asked for it....

...According to the Catholic News Agency, Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos, head of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, let the cat out of the bag in an interview for a DVD instructing priests on how to celebrate the Extraordinary Form.

Here’s the money quote: “The cardinal said that parishes and priests should make available the Extraordinary Form so that ‘everyone may have access to this treasure of the ancient liturgy of the Church’. He also stressed that, ‘even if it is not specifically asked for, or requested’ it should be provided. Interestingly, he added that the Pope wants this Mass to become normal in parishes, so that ‘young communities can also become familiar with this rite’.”...
